Beyond Bread
6260 E Speedway Blvd, Tucson, AZ
Crema's Take
“Beyond Bread is a beloved Tucson institution that takes its sandwiches and baked goods seriously, with reviewers raving about everything from their veggie shawarma to house-made bread that puts other local bakeries to shame. The vibe here balances quick counter service with cozy spots to linger over lunch, making it equally suited for grabbing something fast or settling in for a leisurely meal with friends. Fair warning: their portions are generous and their food is genuinely delicious, so expect the lunch rush to kick in fast.”

After the counter service was so horrid, we were skeptical about how the food was going to be, but we were pleasantly surprised that it tasted so good. But it is hard to enjoy ones meal when customer service is so poor. Ana Maria acted as if it was a huge inconvenience for her take our order or answer any questions about the menu items. The cold brew tasted like iced coffee and the cortado was not cortado-like, but the Carmela's Caprese Chicken Sandwich was over the top delicious and the Molly's sandwich was pretty good too😋
Great local gem for sandwiches. Wide variety of sandwiches - hot, cold, meaty, or veggitarian. The soup of the day is usually lovely too. Services are big, I am either stuffed or have some to take home. In addition to prepared sandwiches they also have loads of bread and baked goods like pastries. Have yet to try one I didn't like. Check out the back dough (separate entrance to the south) for more of that. No gluten free options. They also have a little drinks counter for stuff like coffee and maybe juice? (I haven't checked it out) Pick up catering is available if you schedule ahead, was pleased with the offerings. They close at 7 most days so early dinners are an option too. Busy lunch crowd on the weekend.
If you’ve ever needed a reliable, addicting lunch spot, Beyond Bread on Speedway absolutely delivers. Their veggie shawarma is so freaking good—warm, flavorful, perfectly seasoned, and one of those dishes you keep thinking about after you leave. It’s hearty, satisfying, and proof that vegetarian options don’t have to feel like an afterthought. And major bonus points for the vegan version of their Unreal Reuben. Finding a plant-based Reuben that actually hits the spot isn’t easy, and this one does. Savory, comforting, and done right. Yes, it’s usually busy—but that’s because people know what they’re doing here. Orders move quickly, the food is consistent, and it’s an excellent go-to for lunch when you want something filling without feeling heavy. Busy, beloved, and very easy to get hooked on.
Traveling through, I ran into this gem. The food, the pastries and the BREAD was amazing. All the local "bread" places around me locally should apologize for not doing as good of a job as this place. I hope they can branch out out of Tucson, it was GREAT!
This place is near our hotel so we stopped by to have lunch. We got there just in the nick of time because soon after we had our order, a lot of people were coming in for lunchtime. The sandwiches were fantastic and so were the cookies. Several choices, but I ended up deciding to go with the roast beef and brie, which was delicious. My wife had the Milton melt, which she quite enjoyed as well.
