Field Day Coffee
1185 Monterey St, San Luis Obispo, CA
Crema's Take
“Field Day Coffee is a wonderfully bohemian gathering space where the plants seem to have claimed as much real estate as the espresso machine—vines literally burrow through the walls, creating an unexpectedly lush indoor garden that opens up to the street via garage doors when the weather cooperates. The espresso-focused menu shines in both traditional drinks and creative signatures, but what really sets it apart is how the airy, plant-filled space has become a haven for the creatively ambitious: locals have literally written life-changing stories here that went on to air on the Moth Radio hour. It's the kind of place where you can linger over excellent coffee and pastries, whether you're laptop-bound for the day or meeting a friend in one of SLO's most character-filled corners.”

This is the cafe where I crafted the story of the "Banana Man" and that story ended up changing my life and landing me a spot on the Moth Radio hour as well as on the Cal Poly Radio talk show. It holds a special place in my heart I don't think I would have been able to write the "Banana Man" story if I had not been sitting in a quite corner of this place on a sunny Monday Morning. The bagels are to die for.
Great coffee spot here in SLO. Cool building that is very hippie where plants are actually finding their way to burrow through the walls. Staff was friendly, but a little slow for a busy work day. Coffee was tasty, so I will be back.
Great spot for a coffee and pastry to start your day. Bright and airy space. In nice weather the garage doors open up to let in fresh air. Staff were friendly.
Checked out Field Day Coffee with a friend today. Space was utilized well as a coffee shop. Open and airy throughout the inside portion of the coffee shop. Ample outdoor seat which was a bonus, and just as the sun came out on our visit. Coffee was delicious and made to order correctly on the first time. I shared a Brown Butter cookie with my friend and it was Delicious. Pricing is fare and coffee tasted much better than other big brand coffee chains. Definitely recommend field day coffee if your visiting SLO. 👍
As a flight attendant, I love to explore coffee spots all over the world, and I absolutely love the San Luis Obispo layover. This was my first visit, and I’ll definitely be coming back—it’s already a favorite. The California charm and vibe are unbeatable, and I really appreciate the overall aesthetic. There's something special about sipping coffee from a real mug and taking the time to sit and enjoy it. My cappuccino was fantastic—perfectly crafted.
