Passion Bakery Cafe

Crema's Take
“This cozy Lihue bakery has earned serious acclaim for its malasadas, with regulars raving about their warm, pillowy texture and creative fillings like lilikoi, ube, and the legendary POG combination that keep people coming back multiple times during their visit. Beyond the standout Portuguese pastries, Passion Bakery offers a surprisingly varied menu of freshly baked goods and light fare in a tight but welcoming space that feels authentically local and family-friendly. It's the kind of spot where you'll want to arrive early to catch the warm malasadas fresh from the kitchen.”

Best malasadas in all of Hawaii!! Its a small shop but their selections offer so much variety. I like their malasadas the best, and we’ve tried a lot all over Hawaii. The issue is dining space, very limited outside and cramped next to each other. The restroom facilities are shared with other tenants under a keypad. Doesn’t seem hygienic to me by not making it accessible to clean up and wash hands before eating.
We loved this place so much we ate here 3 times! Malasadas are fantastic. We went early in the morning and every time we got them they were warm. We had the lilikoi, Ube, mango filled and the sugar coated and the cinnamon sugar coated ones. Try the Ube, it was probably my favorite, but all of them were great. Hubby had eggs and toast one morning and it was great. Service was friendly, great worship/praise music playing inside making it a warm welcoming environment. Table seating outside. I bought mango bread for plane ride home and it was perfect warmed up the morning after I got home.
I’ve been coming to passion for several years now. But recently I had a bad experience ordering from their website. I’m also not one to write reviews, but I felt should. On their official website to order online they have a $10 off discount. I decided to use it to order today. I got a phone call from my driver saying they wanted to see the physical coupon. Why would I order online if I could go in? I’m disabled and don’t have my own car. I told my driver that they have it on their website where you order. After that was cleared up, my driver picked up my order and I’m assuming some others, and for some reason drove past my house right in Kapaa and all the way down to Anahola to drop an order off. You’d think you’d drop off at the house that’s closer so their food doesn’t get cold. When I got the order, the coffee was luke warm and the malasadas were WAY overcooked. Usually they’re light and fluffy. Next time I’ll just hold off and go in, because I always have a good experience in person. Pretty unfortunate though since the store is always crowded with tourists and us locals refuse to go to places because of it. :(
I might be biased, but the POG (Passion/Orange/Guava for newbies to the islands) filled Malasada is the absolute BEST I have ever had. If you are near the Coconut Grove marketplace you need to go here. I can't comment on the food, but people we chatted with said it was good. Our group of 4 has driven all the way from Princeville to Kapaa the last three days for these delicious bits of confectionary heaven.
🥐 Passion Bakery Cafe in Kapa'a, Hawaii is a hidden gem! The aroma of freshly baked pastries is irresistible. The croissants are flaky perfection, and the egg sandwich choices are a savory delight. The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy. Best time to visit is in the morning when everything is fresh. Don't miss out on their delicious coffee too! It's a must-visit spot for any bakery lover. 🌺🥖
