Sidecar Doughnuts & Coffee

701 East 2100 S, South Salt Lake, UT

Crema's Take

This beloved South Salt Lake spot draws crowds for genuinely excellent donuts, particularly their signature butter and salt cake varieties that arrive warm and perfectly balanced. Fair warning: the popularity comes with operational growing pains and potentially long waits, so timing your visit strategically (and perhaps calling ahead) will significantly improve your experience. If you can navigate the chaos, the quality of their donuts—especially their cake and brioche options—justifies the hype, though the premium pricing means you're really committing to the specialty pastry experience.

Easily the most inefficient donut shop I’ve visited. Communication was poor, and the entire experience felt disorganized. Popularity is great, but without solid processes in place, it really shows. The donuts might be amazing, I wouldn’t know, because after standing in the lobby for 15 minutes, I was never able to place an order. UPDATE: someone heard about my experience and brought me a donut to try. It was fantastic.

We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed. These doughnuts are fantastic and they draw a crowd. I highly recommend the butter and salt doughnut, and my suggestion is to eat it right there. Do not take it home to eat it, eat it while it is warm! It is the best doughnut I have had. Make sure you order your own doughnut, these are not worth sharing. You will want to eat two by yourself, they are so good and warm

Overhyped I was so excited to try and good thing I didn’t stand in line forever because they were not great. Sorry sidecar, I really wanted to love you. Huckleberry and strawberry donut were so bland (not even a little sweet) Maybe I just got a bad batch?? The cinnamon crumb was the better tasting one. I will give them points for the texture of the donut itself. It had a little crunch on the outside and super soft and moist on the inside. The flavor was just not there… maybe next time I’m in the area I’ll give them another shot.

The best cake donut I've ever had. It was still a both warm when I got it. The butter and salt is good, but some salt on top might be good. It wasn't that salty. I also ordered the maple and bacon. It was good and had tons of bacon sprinkles. Pricey, 6 for $25. I ordered two and it was about $10. They were really good. They had a sample on the counter to try some flavors. Very clean, modern, nice shop. Service was good. Check out was quick.

This place is worth the hype! Maybe not worth the money, though ($25 for 6 donuts). The donuts, both their cake and brioche varieties, are unbelievably good. They do a great job of balancing sweetness with actual flavor. Each donut tasted unique, unlike other shops where it feels like the only thing you're tasting is sugar. I would say stop by, just make sure you bring your wallet! I wanted to give it a full 5 stars, but couldn't in good conscience because of the price.
