Marie's Donuts
2950 Freeport Blvd, Sacramento, CA
Crema's Take
“This Sacramento institution has been perfecting the art of the simple donut since the 1950s, and their golden, crispy-outside fritters are legendarily good—locals swear they're the best in California. The no-frills wooden walk-up on Freeport Boulevard channels pure nostalgia, drawing everyone from longtime regulars to couples who want to celebrate their favorite treats in photos, and their specialty donuts vanish so fast you'll want to arrive early. It's the kind of old-school spot where quality craftsmanship and history speak louder than trends, making it worth the pilgrimage for anyone serious about finding a perfect donut.”

Oh boy! I think they’ve taken the trophy for best sore fritter. From SoCal to NorCal… we’ve tried so many fritters… but Marie’s might seriously be the best. The fritters and crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. They’re not too sweet and you can actually taste and see the apples. We’ve tried coming here numerous times in the past but they’ve been sold out. Now we know why.
Old school donut shop. Reminded me of being a kid again. Best donuts I've had in a long time. No other donut shop even comes close.
Solid donut place- this place has a lot of history and has been there for a good while. The donuts was solid, the service was good. I think they have some specialty donuts but they go really quick. I would say- quality looks 4/5. I would probably rate it higher if I tried the specialty ones. Very popular, and it's always good to support local business.
I recently photographed an engagement session at Marie’s Donuts, and it couldn’t have been more perfect! The couple wanted to incorporate their favorite donuts (and the shop itself) into their photos. The shop made such a cute, nostalgic backdrop, and the donuts looked (and tasted!) amazing. A Sacramento favorite with so much charm — highly recommend stopping by! 🍩📸
Nothing more than a wooden walk-up on Freeport Boulevard Marie’s Donuts nonetheless remains Sacramento’s premier Donut Shop, simple fried Dough made the same way since the 50’s still drawing crowds while So.Cal lines up for $6 hand-cut rings at places like Sidecar. Still family-run at 70 years old, low-prices adding to its novelty, guests are greeted with a smile by staff from 10pm until 4pm with fresh options made to replenish supply of in-demand items like simple raised and glazed or Bismarks filled with Custard. Cash or Credit over $5, the Coffee hot but no better than Folgers, Marie’s selection ranges from Cake to Fritters and Crullers, the later a bit less airy than they ought to be but Old Fashioned Cogwheels faultless beneath Maple Icing slightly penetrating as a result of being added while still hot.
