Crema's Take
“Hidden away in Portland, JoLa Café surprises visitors with its deceptively spacious, TARDIS-like interior that feels both charming and genuinely welcoming—a rare affordable refuge for lingering over coffee in the city. Their espresso-focused drinks showcase beautiful latte art, while the kitchen turns out crowd-pleasing favorites from creative breakfast burritos to avocado toast, making it equally beloved by solo coffee drinkers, families, and remote workers who keep coming back.”

This place escaped my notice for a long time, but I'm so glad I finally found JoLa Café. It's charming, affordable, and cozy. These days in Portland, it's hard to find an affordable sit-down neighborhood café, and JoLa really delivers. The atmosphere feels like a true local spot... friendly, welcoming, with solid food, pleasant music, art on the walls, and plenty of places to tuck yourself away to do a bit of work or meet a friend. The Moroccan chicken salad and pesto sandwich are my favorites. If I'm grabbing something on the go, the breakfast burrito is great too. They've also started doing monthly(ish) set-course dinners, and they are SO. GOOD. It's nice to feel a bit of community in small ways, and JoLa Café does that in spades.
Very cute, TARDIS-like cafe (it's bigger on the inside!) I had an Americano but the barista made BEAUTIFUL coffee art for others- I was low-key jealous. Very friendly, helpful staff- they seem genuinely happy to be there. Such a welcoming, open ambience. Food was fresh, flavorful, and delicious.
One of my favorite breakfast spots! We used to live nearby and walked here all the time, and even after moving, we still come back on the weekends because it’s just that good. The food is always delicious, with great gluten-free options, excellent coffee, and even kombucha on tap (a huge plus!). The atmosphere is calm, cozy, and relaxed, perfect for a quiet breakfast or even catching up on a few work emails. I also love the rotating art on the walls; it really adds to the charm. The staff is consistently friendly and helpful. On our last visit, my husband couldn’t decide between the salmon hash and the biscuits and gravy, and the staff recommendation of the biscuits and gravy did not disappoint! he loved it! We absolutely love this place and will continue coming back for years. Highly recommend!
Perfection in a weekday and a macarone and mint tea. Simple and awesome. Smart cafe with excellent barista. Order the mocha and leave the lid off. Try the berry smoothie and avocado toast. Haven’t had a real dinner in a while? Treat yo self!! Their dinner is refined and full service. Expect to be happily surprised.
Stopped in today to work for a bit while my kiddo was busy doing something. Really nice place, the burrito was delicious with bunch of different hot sauce options. Way bigger inside than was expecting so was able to find place to sit no problem. Only reason not 5 star is the WiFi wasn't working making it a bit harder to get some work done.
