Crema's Take

Run by French nuns who craft authentic French pastries with a restrained hand on sugar, St Roger Abbey feels like stepping into a countryside village bakery where every bite supports their charitable mission. The coffee pairs beautifully with their standout baked goods—locals rave about the apple tart—and the peaceful, unhurried atmosphere invites you to linger over your cup like you have nowhere else to be. It's the kind of place that sneaks into your heart at a market and keeps you searching for it long after.

What to expect

Classic coffee drinks done right. A slow-sit spot, good for meetings. Pastries on the menu.

I love this place, I have been coming here since it opened and it nice fails to amaze me. The food is always wonderful and the nuns are kind, efficient and overall amazing. Home to some of the best food in all of Wilmette.

FYI- don’t take photos. I got into trouble for taking a picture. Wish they had a sign on the door that read “No pictures taking allowed”. Their food is very natural flavor that isn’t artificial anything. No high fructose corn syrup or anything super rich with flavor. To me…

Great experience and love the bakery items. Not too sweet, just the way I love it. Great coffee and great environment to relax and enjoy the town and people.

I miss St Roger Abbey’s old location! They moved an hour away from where I live, so imagine my delight when I saw them at West Dundee’s Heritage Fest? All their baked goods, especially the apple tart, is divine!

Beautiful pastries and lovely service. Feels like you are in the French countryside. Staffed by nuns from France that do this work to raise money for other charitable work. They also sell an assortment of cheeses, teas, wines other savory food items, and even some toiletries.
