Nightcap

Crema's Take

Nightcap is a late-night dessert and coffee haven that bridges the gap between coffeehouse and cocktail bar, perfect for satisfying midnight sweet cravings after dinner. What sets them apart is their commitment to sourcing desserts from local Birmingham businesses like The Handel, though regulars wish for a more robust selection—the goat cheese cheesecake and key lime pie are standouts worth the visit. The vibe is genuinely cozy and intimate, with staff like Scott who know their craft whether you're ordering an expertly-made espresso martini or hunting for that perfect after-dinner treat.

The restaurant is known to be a dessert bar. There aren't many options for desserts. I like the fact that they try to incorporate local businesses for desserts. I wish there were more options. The drinks were mediocre. The restaurant is pretty large and has a lot of potential if the lighting and ambiance was changed to a more moody, "nightcap" feel

I recommend the keylime pie and any dessert made by The Handel! I don’t really drink, but I really appreciate a late night dessert and coffee spot! I also think the atmosphere is cute, and will come back again!

Wait time was quick which was a plus and the ambience was cute but nothing groundbreaking. Food (the fries) was the best part, drinks were mediocre at best — either too sweet or too sour — and absolutely nothing to write home about. My espresso martini was rather disappointing.

Just stopped by for an after dinner drink and a to go dessert. Scott was awesome. Made my wife an espresso martini she loved and had a huge knowledge of dessert wines. The goat cheese cheese cake is absolutely out of this world. I dont have much of a sweet tooth, but I'll be back for that and the broad selection at the bar.

I really wanted to love this place because the concept sounded perfect a late-night dessert and cocktail spot you could slide into after dinner for something sweet and cozy. But the experience just didn’t match the vision yet. When we arrived, the vibe felt a little off the décor and lighting didn’t quite give that nightcap feel. I expected something moodier, softer, and more intimate. The owner did dim the lights later, which helped a little, but I wish it had that energy from the moment we walked in. Our server Gable was the highlight super kind, professional, and made the night better overall. Service-wise, no complaints there. The desserts, however, missed the mark. I ordered the Key Lime Pie, and it honestly tasted more store-bought than homemade a bit too tart and not very balanced. For a dessert bar, I was hoping for something more creative and signature that sets them apart. The cocktails were okay, but again, I expected more “dessert-inspired” drinks that feel like the final touch to a good dinner. I see potential here the concept is strong, the staff is sweet, and the location is nice. I just hope in a few months they refine the menu, add some originality to the drinks and desserts, and lean into that cozy “end of the night” feel the name promises.
