Downtown Espresso

Crema's Take
“Downtown Espresso has the bones of a lovely neighborhood spot with genuinely good pastries and espresso drinks that shine when the timing is right, but consistency seems to be its biggest challenge—some visitors rave about the cozy, picturesque atmosphere perfect for lingering with friends, while others encounter service that feels dismissive and drinks that arrive lukewarm or undersized. The early morning crew appears to nail it, so if you're an early riser looking for quality espresso and a comfortable place to work or meet, you might find your people here; just maybe avoid the evening rush.”

We stopped in with about 30 minutes to spare, hoping to grab coffee and a pastry. Unfortunately, the experience was really disappointing from start to finish. We ordered four drinks: a hot cocoa, a latte, a cappuccino with sugar, and an iced matcha latte. The pastry case only had a few tired looking options, so we skipped food. The drinks were the real problem. The iced matcha latte tasted like water. The latte and cappuccino both tasted like plain hot milk. The cappuccino also came without sugar even though we specifically asked for it. The only drink that was decent was the hot cocoa. What made this more frustrating is that we were the only customers there. Two employees were working, yet it took 30 minutes to make four drinks. We eventually had to switch everything to to-go because we ran out of time. Four basic drinks should not take that long, especially when the shop is empty. I can’t recommend this place based on this experience.
Very disappointed. The service was unfriendly and unhelpful from the start. I paid for a full-size hot coffee, yet the cup wasn’t even half full and it was served lukewarm instead of hot. That alone felt like a rip-off. I also ordered a slice of cake for $8. While the size itself wasn’t the issue, the quality was. The cake was frozen and had to be reheated in a high-powered oven, which clearly shows it wasn’t fresh. Paying $8 for a frozen slice of cake that looks like it came straight from Restaurant Depot was extremely disappointing. Overall, the experience did not match the prices being charged, and I won’t be returning.
lovely, picturesque, and cozy place. The pastries look amazing and the coffee is great. It’s a nice spot to spend some time with friends. I went very early, and everything was excellent
We went in to order 3 matches at 6:30 pm. The minute we stepped into the store we felt unwelcomed don’t get me wrong i’ve in customer service and bakeries I know how annoying it can be close to the end of the day. That being said the website said they close at 7:00pm when we walked in we asked “can we still order?” Her response was “We close in 10 minute” she didn’t even offer to let us take it to go she just let us walk out. Unfortunately this is why corporate cafes will always have customers I literally ended up going to Starbucks the matcha was not as good but the treatment was way better.
I stopped by Downtown Espresso with my mom for a quick coffee. She asked about juice options, which was just a question — not an expectation — and the fact that they didn’t have juice was not an issue at all. The issue was the service. The shop was very quiet, and the only employee working didn’t greet us or acknowledge us when we came in. When we asked questions, there was little effort to explain the menu or help us decide, so we were left figuring things out on our own. We ended up ordering just one cortado. The drink itself wasn’t the problem — the lack of friendliness and basic customer service was. Our order wasn’t brought to the table, and when we were done, even simple courtesy was missing. Customer service is crucial, especially in a small coffee shop. I would strongly recommend that the owners address this employee’s attitude or consider making a change to prevent this experience from happening to other customers. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning.
