Grendel's Coffee House
729 E Burnside, Portland, OR
Crema's Take
“Tucked away on E Burnside, Grendel's is a cozy refuge where espresso craftsmanship meets genuine hospitality—regulars rave about both the creative signature drinks and surprisingly excellent pastries, especially croissants that rival Italian bakeries. The unpretentious vibe and thoughtful touches like sugar-free flavors and latte art make it equally welcoming whether you're settling in with a laptop for the afternoon or grabbing a quick bagel sandwich before heading out.”

From the unique drink specials, to the lovely staff and the tasty lunch options, I always have a great time at Grendel’s. The atmosphere is cozy and unpretentious, and it’s a great spot to stop off midday when I’m doing errands. I do wish they were open later, though!
One of the best croissant in my life! And I think as an Italian that says something. Cozy, affordable, high quality food and good coffe, super kind staff. Definitely recommended.
Always wanted to check this spot out since I just moved in a few blocks up the road. Small, quiet spot with TONS of coffee options and specials for those who don’t know exactly what they want. Friendly staff who work quickly and announce loudly when your drink is ready. The music is just the right volume and you feel glad you stopped in. The drink I got was a 16oz Lavender Mocha with oat milk and an extra shot of espresso. Usually when I order a drink with an extra shot, all I end up tasting is the espresso and none of the additional flavors, so I went in thinking this might be a bad time however, this drink is easily, if not, the best iced flavored coffee drink I’ve ever had in Portland/in general. Great work, y’all. Will definitely be coming back. Drink was $6.25 after everything.
Grendel’s is a fast and friendly little coffee shop off E Burnside, very close to Jupiter Hotel/Eastside Lodge. Every time I stay in Portland I come and get a bagel breakfast sandwich (which is always fresh and hot) and one of their fun drink specials, or a cappuccino (which they do well!). If you’re in the area looking for a good sandwich or a drink on the go definitely stop by!
A decent little cafe on Burnside, with good vibes and nice outdoor seating. They had sugar free flavors and dairy free milk, and that was nice. They also did good latte art which I always appreciate. The barista was friendly. I may or may not return as I wasn't a fan of the flavor and texture of the coffee, which seemed a bit thin and tangy for my liking.
