Crema's Take

Born & Bread is a beloved island institution where the sourdough is so exceptional that locals dream about it year-round and freeze halves to enjoy at home—even those with gluten sensitivities find the quality flours transformative. Beyond the standout breads and pastries like their lemon blueberry thyme scones, this tiny downtown spot serves excellent coffee and creative panini in a darling, bustling atmosphere that captures the essence of Nantucket, though the charm is best savored when you arrive with patience for the frequent lines.

Very good sourdough, I get the loaf uncut. I slice at home, as I eat simply with butter. I freeze half, just defrost then heat in oven 10 min. I’m gluten intolerant but sourdoughs with quality flours are bearable. One star off for the staff who maybe need more caffeine in the morning.

While on Nantucket, I stumbled upon this adorable café and had the hardest time selecting just one pastry to try from the case! I decided on the Lemon Blueberry Thyme Scone that was so delicious; sweet with the right amount of savory from the thyme. I only wish I bought a loaf of their bread, it looked and smelled so good!

Good coffee, good bacon egg panini and all made with a smile. Cute little bake shop in downtown Nantucket. Line was out the door of this tiny shop, but quickly moved. Grill needs to be clean, but they get slammed. Overall, a good experience at a decent price.

Darling spot with panini sandwiches. It was very busy in there even in the off season. Unfortunately the line was perhaps making the staff grumpy because the staff was grumpy. The coffee was good and we enjoyed the space. The large table up front was perfect for us to lay out our bike map and plan our day. Thanks for having us Born & Bread :)
