Crema's Take

Bayou Bakery brings an authentic slice of New Orleans to Arlington with moody lighting, live music, and that unmistakable NOLA spirit that keeps locals returning after years away. Their beignets are a genuine highlight—crispy and satisfying enough to justify the pilgrimage even if they're not quite the real deal from across the bayou—and the creative breakfast dishes like the Hungover Hog prove there's real care in the kitchen beyond the pastry case. It's the kind of cozy, character-filled spot where you can linger over coffee and conversation, though service can be inconsistent when things get busy.

The ambiance of this establishment is undoubtedly its strongest asset, you can feel the spirit of New Orleans with its music and decor. However, the experience lacks when it comes to service. The staff who took our food orders were somewhat indifferent—neither friendly nor overtly rude. They seemed unhelpful when it came to answering questions or providing recommendations. On a brighter note, the woman who cleared our plates was genuinely pleasant, adding a small touch of warmth to our experience. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the nice setting. I ordered the da greens salad with chicken, and it was a significant letdown. The presentation was far from what one would expect from a Louisiana-inspired dish. Having previously attended a cooking class with the chef owner, I was disappointed especially since I had high hopes for this visit. The food simply didn’t reflect the culinary richness of New Orleans/Lousiana, which was disheartening. I even opted to skip dessert because they didn’t look appealing. It’s a shame, as I wanted to enjoy my time at this place, but the food and service left much to be desired. The ambiance is cool, but without good food and attentive service, it’s hard to recommend this spot for dining.

We came here for lunch after a court hearing as the courthouse is just down the road making this a very convenient location. We were a party of four and when we arrived it was not busy but business picked up during our meal. THE DEAL: 100% self service. You order at the one counter , pick up from another counter and you seat yourself. SERVICE: The staff were so-so meaning not rude but definitely not friendly either. We felt like we were bothering them so not very inviting. FOOD & DRINK: We only tried two sandwiches as two of us got BLTs and two of us got Muffulettas. The BLT was meh with way over cooked bacon but the Muffuletta was good. Specialty coffees were weak. AMBIANCE: Great homage to New Orleans (Nawh’lins) and the Bayou and there is lots of awesome attention to detail. Be careful in the main dining area because there is a side door and they were receiving deliveries in the freezing cold winter temps the entire time we were there and that side door opens directly to the dining area making it was ridiculously and uncomfortably cold! Again, the staff couldn’t be bothered. Not the worst I’ve ever had, but definitely nothing to make me wanna go back. C’est la vie!

Stopped in for breakfast but just missed the cutoff. Ordered beignets in lieu of. Pretty tasty although not quite like getting one from NOLA. Would definitely return to explore other menu options. Love that everything is so reasonably priced. I will add that there was a young man behind the counter who was constantly running his fingers through his hair and then handing folks their food (coffee/pastries). 🤢 Management please remind employees of the importance of food handling because someone is always watching.

Very comfy bakery. I absolutely love New Orleans vibes. Can’t get enough of them. The beignets were delicious the tea options were solid. The staff was friendly and provided recs which were helpful. Happy I was able to stop in again and thankful I remembered this place. They have plenty of seating and it’s a cozy vibe.

Haven’t been back in over 10 years. Happy to confirm the food still holds true. We had some beignets and the hungover hog. The hungover hog is bbq pork, ham, soft poached egg, and potatoes. Very tasty. The beignets here are better than at cafe du monde. I’ve had biscuits and gravy here before and I’m certain I will have that on the next visit. Service is still not optimum for how busy this place gets.
