Crema's Take

This Louisville institution excels at crafting classic bourbon cocktails in a spacious, convivial setting that feels equally welcoming for a solo mint julep or a group celebration. Beyond the drinks, Doc Crow's pairs Southern smokehouse fare with a raw bar, though reviewers seem most enthusiastic about the consistently excellent service and warm atmosphere than the food itself. It's the kind of place where the bartenders know their craft and the vibe encourages lingering with friends over a thoughtfully made drink.

I have to be honest about this place. I have ate here four times and I just can’t get into it! Let me say the service is phenomenal! Always is! Our service Darius was excellent. Hence the 5 stars for service. My friend and I had two WDRB $50 gift certificates that we paid $25 a piece for. They were expired and Doc Crow’s agreed to honor the purchase amount. Thank you Doc Crow’s. I am an oyster connoisseur and while the oysters tend to be smaller they are good. The oysters were $6 a piece! Last night I tried the pulled pork sandwich with Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese taste like kraft with smoked Gouda in it. The pulled pork was barely warm and no smoke flavor. I ask Darius to replace the Mac and cheese which he did but the fries aren’t the best either. I have had the jambalaya and the gumbo before and not impressed. I’ll definitely be back for the oysters and the nightlife scene…but the food leaves so much to be desired!

Doc Crow’s provides many BBQ meats. We had trio tacos with pulled pork, beef brisket and fish, fried oysters, beef brisket sandwich and Mac&Cheese. Overall it’s ok. The meat is not as soft or tender as I want it to be. Oyster is small. Mostly is the fried dough. The food took sometime to come out. Staff was nice tho. They have liquor bottles on multiple shelves around the room as decoration. It’s cool but I don’t feel it goes with the light the furniture the floor. Give me a feeling of frat house.

I made dinner reservation for Doc Crow’s weeks ahead since they were really popular. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were taken to our table right away. The space was huge inside. We had to take a long walk to get to our table. They had a huge bar near the entrance. The dining area where we sat down was so impressive, with all the liquor bottles going all around the walls. We started with the fried oysters. The quantity and the taste of the dish was underwhelming to me, especially for the price of $28. For entree I got the beef brisket. Took them about 20 minutes to bring it out. The brisket had no sauce to it, the plain pieces of meat looked so sad, with couple of pieces of onion and pickles just thrown on top. The onion wasn’t even a full piece, lol! The broccoli that came as side dish was actually much better. My family ordered the Mac & Cheese and Doc’s tacos. Both were decent dishes. Our server was nice and friendly, did her job well. The restaurant was packed, meaning they were a popular spot for locals. But overall the food and dining experience fell short of my expectations.

I visited Doc Crow’s Southern Smokehouse and Raw Bar for lunch with a group of six, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The restaurant is quite spacious, making it a great spot for a mid-day group meal without feeling cramped. I tried the Dixie Chicken, and it was excellent—perfectly seasoned and juicy. One of the highlights for our table was the optional bourbon honey on the side, which added a delicious sweet-and-smoky kick to the meal. The lunch service was fast and attentive, which we really appreciated given our party size. Beyond the food, the atmosphere in this renovated historic building on Whiskey Row is very cool, with walls lined with an incredible selection of bourbon bottles. It’s a solid choice for a high-quality lunch in downtown Louisville. Highly recommend the Dixie Chicken if you're looking for Southern comfort food

I went to Doc Crows looking for a mint julep in the winter. The service was great, the vibe was great and our server, Jade, took great care of us. The remoulade sauce served with the pickles and fried okra was so good that I decided to get a Po Boy. Anything we got that was fried was cooked perfectly! If we are ever in the area, I would definitely go again.
