Crema's Take

Mocha Box strikes that sweet spot between serious coffee exploration and comfortable hangout space, with an expansive menu that goes beyond espresso drinks to include impressive matcha and specialty coffees like Yemen roasts and cardamom-forward mofawar. The beautiful, spacious atmosphere and creative pastries (including those delightfully realistic fruit designs) make it easy to linger for hours, whether you're working on your laptop or meeting friends, though some visitors note the experience can be inconsistent.

I love supporting local coffee shops and truly hope they improve because I’d be willing to give them a second chance. Unfortunately, my first visit wasn’t the best experience. The space itself is very cute and nicely decorated. I came with my family, and we originally went there specifically for crepes. However, when we got to the counter to order, we were told they were only serving French toast and omelets. That was disappointing, and in hindsight we probably should have gone somewhere else, but we decided to give them a chance anyway. The coffee was okay overall. They did mess up one of the four drinks we ordered, but the staff member was quick to fix it and let us keep the incorrect drink, which we appreciated. We ordered a Biscoff latte (very strong), one iced and one hot salted caramel latte (both lacking much caramel flavor), and a strawberry matcha, which in my opinion was the best drink we tried. For food, we ordered two Nutella French toasts, one strawberry French toast, and one chocolate chip French toast. Based on previous reviews, I have to agree — they were disappointing. It was essentially bread, egg, and toppings of your choice. We also had to ask for forks, as none were provided or available near the trash area. The café wasn’t very busy, so that was surprising. For the price, I expected better quality and organization. From what I understand, they receive shipments every 2–3 weeks. I asked when the next delivery was expected, and she said Wednesday. That may explain why many items were unavailable. It seems like your best chance for a fuller menu and fresher options might be right after a shipment. I truly hope they’re able to improve consistency and availability because the space has potential.

I usually stop by here once per week for the coffee, matcha, chicken shwarma, or pastries. They have the really cute realistic fruit pastries. Their matcha is also so so good. They have lots of specialty matcha drinks that you dont see in AVL a lot. The service is very kind and accommodating.

Such a cool and unique new spot in Asheville! The atmosphere and decor are so beautiful and spacious. Staff was friendly and service was quick! Menu is expansive and has a mixture of classic coffeeshop fare as well as Yemeni options. We tried the bee bites and a few lattes and enjoyed everything. Also, there’s a dedicated parking lot which is a plus.

I enjoy a good Yemen coffee shop and this was an enjoyable experience. I didn’t expect to stay as long as I did as I was checking this location out for the first time. Two hours and half the menu later, it met expectations. Edit: They have not yet gotten to the restroom renovation so just be mentally prepared for that. Otherwise great ambiance.

We recently visited Mocha Coffee Box and had a great experience. We ordered the mofawar coffee, which was absolutely delicious with a wonderful cardamom flavor that stood out. We also tried the hot cocoa, which isn’t a Yemeni specialty but was still very good. The staff might not have formal restaurant backgrounds, but they were incredibly nice and welcoming (with big smiles), and that made the visit even better. The shop itself was clean, tidy, and pleasant to sit in, even if it doesn’t have the rustic vibe that a lot of places in this part of the city go for. The Mocha Coffee Box serves excellent coffee with genuine hospitality. We’ll definitely be back for more mofawar.
