Crema's Take

This beloved Salem institution captures that sweet spot between casual diner charm and genuine culinary care, with a rustic-but-spotless atmosphere that locals keep returning to for breakfast that actually lives up to the hype. The independent spot has earned its strong reputation by doing the fundamentals right—hot, fresh food and a welcoming vibe that feels refreshingly unpretentious in a way that clearly resonates with the community. If you're after comfort food done well in a space that feels authentically lived-in rather than design-focused, this is the kind of neighborhood gem worth seeking out.

My wife and I had breakfast at Cafe 22 West. The restaurant is not fancy and frankly that is a plus as, far as we are concerned. The place is very clean just a bit rustic. We started by enjoying a cinnamon scones. A little dry, but they gave us lots of butter, so it was yummy. My wife had 1/2 order of biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns and 2 slices of bacon. The gravy was choke full of sausage and very good. Bacon was another stand out. I had 2 eggs, hashbrowns 4 strips of bacon and sourdough toast. Everything was very good. The service was also great. All and all a great for a delicious breakfast.

The Cafe 22 West was an alright water drinking experience. Personally, for me, I would have prefered a more interesting glass. There was nothing wrong with the one provided, but it was bland, basic, and frankly boring. As for the water itself, well, it was just ok.

First of all five stars doesn’t justify the delicious food here! For most breakfast places I have super low expectations because no one in the valley knows how to make a good home cooked breakfast but Cafe 22 did just that! My mom went here prior to being diagnosed with cancer and it was a place she wanted to go back to before we moved to Texas for her cancer treatment so we took her here today and the staff was so kind and accommodating! Cafe 22 gave you that family home style vibe you want! We will miss it when we move but when we visit family here we will definitely be back! The seasonal pumpkin pancakes were the best I have ever had! Being able to get that pumpkin flavor in food isn’t easy and can get messed up but these tasted like the warm comfort of fall! 100/10 And you can’t go wrong with homemade biscuits and gravy!! 100/10

Had breakfast here. It is a fun old-style 'diner'. The food was hot, fresh, and tasty. There was a pesky fly that would not leave us alone, which impacted the experience.

So me and my mom went to this restaurant and we were going to sit where the shade was on the other side of the restaurant, but then they had a set, they have us set at the back where there's no people, and the sun was in our face. The waitress sat a couple where are we gonna about to sit and now we were thinking, we're never gonna come back and now finding out when we got home, my mom's plastic container had a hole in it, and now we feel like there was plastic in the food. They said that it was in sections. And we were the only African Americans there and I feel like it was more of a stereotype
