Diamonds Coffee Shoppe
1618 Central Ave NE, Minneapolis, MN
Crema's Take
“Diamonds Coffee Shoppe is a sprawling Northeast Minneapolis gem with a wonderfully retro, artsy vibe that feels refreshingly gritty compared to the minimalist coffee shops popping up everywhere. The cleverly divided space creates cozy nooks and semi-private alcoves perfect for lingering with your laptop or catching up with friends, while their solid traditional espresso drinks and standout banana bread pair nicely with a genuinely family-friendly atmosphere that even includes a toy machine for the kids.”

Great spot for coffee in NE! The atmosphere and overall vibe of this place is awesome. I love the retro and artsy decor, plus the layout of the whole cafe is nice as it's spread out over several, semi-distinct rooms. The service here was great, and the food and drink were decent. The sweet potato muffin I tried was quite good—I think the texture of the sweet potato really lends itself well to create that perfectly moist muffin. My partner tried a chicken salad sandwich, and this was also pretty good. The coffee was decent—I found my flavored drink to lean a little on the sweet side, but it was a pumpkin pie latte which in general is known to be very sweet anywhere you get it. I would say that the quality of the coffee was okay, definitely a bit better than average! Overall I think this place is great. It seems like an excellent spot to meet up with friends and chat, or sit and get a little work done. I really do love the space here and I'm sure I'll be back soon! I definitely recommend checking it out if you live in the area.
Love the atmosphere of Diamonds. The space is relatively large but it is sectioned off to nooks and crannies, creating semi private spaces, perfect for working on a laptop. Pretty laid back and a bottomless cup of drip was excellent.
Loved the space. Took my two kids and they were overjoyed by the toy machine (mean mom never lets them get hard candy or gum) and the mini-rice crispy treats. Barista was great at offering kid friendly temp for our cider (forgetful mom forgets that).
I’d choose Diamonds with it’s vintage decor and grittier feel over most of the newer, more sterile/minimalist shoppes. My cappuccino was pretty good and the menu looked good for food. Diamonds is a place I feel very comfortable for sitting and chatting and working at. Snug booths/nooks, comfortable old chairs. Personal tastes of course may vary.
This place is pretty cool, good coffee and tea. Fantastic banana 🍌 bread. Has a diner-esk feel up front, and white washed brick walled little rooms which give a different visual and auditory vibe. It's very different from your normal coffee shop layout, but that's not a bad thing. Try it out sometime.
