The Cubby in Captain Cook
939 W 5th Ave, Anchorage, AK
Crema's Take
“Tucked in Captain Cook, The Cubby has evolved into a surprisingly spacious and well-lit gathering spot where you can linger comfortably over coffee and pastries, with plenty of outlets and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. While their food is straightforward rather than adventurous (think simple breakfast burritos and light fare), the real draw here is the thoughtful space itself—locals consistently praise the vibe for both quick coffee runs and long work sessions, backed by efficient, friendly service.”

I’ve been to The Cubby several times and I really want to love it. The seating area is actually great. It’s comfortable, has a nice vibe, and it’s a solid place to sit and hang out for a while. That said, the internet situation has been consistently frustrating. There are three different public WiFi networks, and all of them are equally unreliable. It’ll run slow for a bit and then just completely drop out for five to seven minutes at a time. If you’re trying to work or take a call, it’s tough. Prices are on the higher side, which I wouldn’t mind as much if the WiFi were dependable. Overall it’s a nice space, but definitely not the spot if you need solid internet.
What a change this place has been. I've revisited after about a decade of other adventures. What once was a little quick and go hole in the wall gem... and now it's a whole venue with so much to see and enjoy. I could spend hours here just taking in the street and views.
I had a breakfast burrito and fresh fruit, the burrito was very boring! It was just ham and cheese, nothing else. They asked if I wanted salsa and they gave me something in a little packet. The fruit was half frozen. Not the most enjoyable experience. The atmosphere, however, is quite nice.
A great place for a quick bite. Basically a glorified coffee shop, but the staff were kind and efficient. We went on a weekend and the service was quick and excellent. Prices were very reasonable and the food and drinks came quick. Sandwiches were fresh and tasted amazing. Coffee and tea were excellent. As a hot coco lover I was happy to get a large hot chocolate.
Very nice! First time here and am wondering why. Service with smiles, great food, great beverages, clean, spacious, well decorated, lots of electrical outlets throughout and lots of natural light. Just finished a breakfast burrito and find myself not wanting to leave. Bravo
