Daydream

864 W 16th St, Newport Beach, CA

★★★★★4.7(151 Google reviews)

Crema's Take

Daydream is a sprawling, light-filled Newport Beach haven where genuinely kind baristas craft some of Orange County's best matcha and espresso alongside impressively good avocado toast and pastries. Beyond the coffee itself, what keeps people coming back is the unique experience of wandering through curated merchandise, apothecary products, surfboards, and wetsuits while sipping your drink in a welcoming space that somehow manages to feel both trendy and genuinely warm. Whether you're grabbing a quick specialty drink or settling in for a slow afternoon, the combination of quality drinks, thoughtful food, and the baristas' infectious friendliness makes it feel less like a transaction and more like stepping into someone's carefully crafted world.

Oooh la la. Easily some of the best avocado toast in all of Orange County...and according to gangster-hipsters, Costa Mesa is the mecca for trendy avocado toast, so that should mean something. I love that there's an option to veganize this dish with olive oil instead of butter. I'm not here for the hashtags nor hash browns (which Daydream is currently lacking). I'm just a sucker for good food and good vibes. While the physical space has potential, the buyer for the gift shop--well, has a different aesthetic vision than me. Overpriced fugly sweaters already in shedding season make me cringe, and don't get me started on their hats. Ew. I shut my mouth with their fantastic food to refrain from commenting on their fashion. And the coffee is overpriced for such a small, forgettable size. Go to Vitaly for your caffeine needs. But the toastally-obsessed should guac right this way...sometimes even the "extra" need a little extra, and Daydream delivers in that regard.

not only was this some of the best matcha/coffee i have had, i also have to shout out how awesome the baristas were - genuinely some of the nicest people i’ve interacted with. the store is huge and has tons of seating and even a cute photo booth. 10/10 experience definitely my new favorite coffee shop.

What I love most about daydream is how welcoming a space it is. It’s light and bright with all kinds of different merchandise and apothecary, including surfboards and wetsuits. There is literally something for everyone. Also excellent spot to go to to buy unique gifts. I was really impressed with their food options, and everyone working there is just happy and really enjoys their job, you can feel it. I was blown away by how excellent the avocado toast was! I don’t know how they do it, but it was simply excellent. I am quite the avocado toast connoisseur, so I will go back! The sourdough bread was toasted to perfection, including the avocado spread with the chili pepper olive oil scallion blend with a hint of lemon, just perfect! I like that they have indoor and outdoor seating too. DD is a great place to hang out, run into friends, or meet new ones! Highly recommend daydream, it really takes you away!🏄🏻‍♂️🏄🏻‍♂️🏄🏻‍♂️
