Sunshine Bakery
2621 Davie Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL
Crema's Take
“Sunshine Bakery is a Fort Lauderdale institution beloved for three decades by locals who swear by their exceptional Latin pastries—meat pastelitos, empanadas, and guava and cheese pastries that rival anything in South Florida. The cappuccinos hit just right, and the full breakfast menu pairs perfectly with those flaky, buttery baked goods, though fair warning: this family-run spot moves to its own pace, so arrive with patience and you'll be rewarded. Come hungry and plan to linger; this is the kind of place that becomes your first stop whenever you're back in town.”

Summary: "Nice bakery, good food, prices are fair, but only go if you have time to wait or not in a rush." Review: I've been eating at this particular bakery for over 30 years and like the food and pricing is fair. My chief complaint is that the service is very slow, the lines are almost always 4-10 people long and in my last 5 visits, I've only gotten food 1 time. (1 person in line at the time and it still took 10 minutes to be served). All other occasions I would go and usually only have 20 minutes to get food before work or an appointment and I would leave empty handed because I would be late if I stayed, typically having waited 10+ minutes each time. I really want to like the bakery of my childhood but it doesn't respect my time. Why should I allocate 20-30 minutes of my time to buy croquetas and a cafe con Leche. They have 3-5 workers behind the counter so it's feels like there should be more efficiency. I understand there are meal orders like press sandwiches that take time, but that isn't every single order, right?
Delicious all around. First time here and wow. Great food and the cappuccino, just how I liked it. I had the salami and cheese with eggs my wife had the chicken pesto. 10/10. Ordered desserts and empandas we had to take them to go that's how big the sandwiches are. And the price for the taste and portions is well worth. The place is clean and spacious. We will back and you should try it. Melkis was our server and she was friendly, taking us through everything they had to offer. Stop in!
this place has always my first stop when I land in Fort Lauderdale. Hands-down, the best meat pastelitos and empanadas and guava and cheese pastries all over South Florida. The team is very fast and very kind and very beautiful. They make the best café colleges around. Highly recommend the spot next time you're in South Florida for the best Cuban pastries in South Florida
10/10 best bakery, highly recommend you stop by this family ran bakery!! I went here before my flight and the pastries were so delicious as well as the empanadas🔥🔥they also have the best pan de bono i’ve tried!👍 I got a cortadito here too that was really yummy so definitely try the coffee too
First and foremost, I want to express that the place is stunning. It’s exceptionally clean. Sadly, the staff isn’t as welcoming as I had hoped. Upon arrival, no one really greets you. They simply ask what you would like. This marks the fourth time I’ve bought their pastries. Each time, they have tasted stale and expired. I ordered a flan, and it had a rotten egg flavor. When I returned it, one of the associates never apologized or asked if I would like a refund. She even went as far as to smell it, almost tasting it, and said she didn’t know. I never anticipated her to realize it wasn’t good, and that it had a sour flavor. She inquired if I wanted something else. She offered me a tres leches, which was dreadful. The tres leches was also old. The very first time I visited, I bought a four-layer cake, and it was terrible. After leaving, I purchased two yuca rellenos and a spinach empanada, and that was awful too.”cold and salty” In all fairness; I don’t think I’ll return again. Honestly, the only item I would consider buying there is a café con leche. PS To be honest, I really don’t understand how you receive positive reviews for your cakes. Your cakes are terrible. They have an unpleasant taste. They are stale. They appear as if they have been stored in the refrigerator for an extended period, and the refrigerator's temperature is not suitable for keeping them fresh, indicating something is off. Perhaps the freshly made food is decent, but the empanadas, croquetas, and yuca relleno are all cold and stale.
