Sunrise Cafe
1201 S 2nd St, Springfield, IL
Crema's Take
“Sunrise Cafe is a no-frills Springfield diner that hits its stride during the breakfast and early lunch rush, when friendly staff and generous portions of classic comfort food (think perfect eggs, crispy hash browns, and their signature breakfast horseshoe) make it feel like a beloved neighborhood gathering spot. Prices are reasonable and the vibe is casual and family-friendly—this isn't where you go for specialty coffee drinks, but rather for honest, well-executed breakfast and a warm welcome that keeps regulars coming back.”

I don’t usually make posts like this, but I feel like I should share my experience. I’ve been to Sunrise Cafe multiple times, and unfortunately I’ve had repeated issues when trying to place pickup orders. It’s happened over the phone and even once in the drive-through. Each time, my order kept being repeated back incorrectly even after I politely corrected it and even had someone else explain it. Today, after trying multiple times, I finally said I would just cancel, and the call ended pretty abruptly. I also know it’s not just me—this same thing has happened to a friend of mine as well. I’m not posting this to be disrespectful. I really like supporting local businesses, but as a paying customer I do expect basic communication and courtesy. I just hope this is something that can be improved so others don’t have the same experience.
I did not enjoy my experience as much as I'd hoped. My server was very sparse - i was over halfway done with my meal before she check to see if everything was satisfactory. The hashbrowns were raw - crunchy. Very gross. The biscuit with gravy on the other hand, was lovely. Very nicely toasted. My eggs were cooked perfectly. Unfortunately the men in the booth behind me were having quite a controversial conversation and very loudly at that. It's all I got to hear the entire time I ate and it was pretty upsetting. I didn't complain, just ate, paid, tipped and left. Won't be back.
I came here on a Wednesday morning in July. Staff was super friendly and helpful. This is a place to come if you are looking for a basic experience and a good deal. Prices were very reasonable. I asked about getting cheddar with my omelet, and it came with American cheese. There was some miscommunication. The food was fresh and hot. The walls are a bright orange, which gives the space a good vibe for the morning. They were good to accommodate me as a solo diner.
Environment is pretty plain. Great and friendly staff. Got the breakfast horse shoe... delicious. Tried it with cheese and gravy but definitely prefer the gravy. My eggs were perfect. And did the biscuit instead of toast... and those biscuits are yummy!
Wonderful little diner. It does have limited business hours. It's usually packed any time from 7am to 2pm. I had a breaded tenderloin sandwich and it came out hot and delicious. This is a place to hit up if you're looking for a quick bite. And our service was wonderful. She was stressing and it was busy but she never missed a step and was so very polite!!
