Middle Child
248 S 11th St, Philadelphia, PA
Crema's Take
“This beloved Philly spot feels like a creative sanctuary where excellent coffee pairs perfectly with standout food, especially their gluten-free sandwiches and fluffy pancakes that actually live up to the hype. The vibe is distinctly laid-back and artistic—think meme posters, skateboards, and local art adorning the walls—making it the kind of place where you'll want to linger over breakfast or a leisurely coffee rather than rush through. Whether you're catching up with a friend or fueling up before work, Middle Child nails that rare balance of serious food and serious hospitality that keeps people coming back.”

I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Philly! Easily the best gluten free sandwich I've ever had. The bread was delicious and actually held up. Portions were generous too!
I had heard of Middle Child but didn't know anything about the food they served, I decided to give it a try and a friend and I arrived just a little too late for breakfast service. We were bummed but had already paid for parking so we decided to stay anyway. The menu was mostly sandwiches and I thought, okay, I never had a bad sandwich but how much better could it be than any other? I got the Shopsin club and 4 days late I'm still thinking about it. That Cranberry-miso mayo has to be the best condiment to every go on a sandwich ever, the pickles were just the right amount of sweet and sour. The bacon, crisp and salty. The bread both toasty and soft. Definitely top 1 sandwich I've ever had, I've been recommending it to everyone. I also had a chocolate chip cookie, it was large and warm with flaky salt on top. Chefs kiss. Dining in was a little tight but I really like the posters on the walls. Overall 10/10 WILL recommend
This place made my last few hours in Philadelphia amazing! The atmosphere of the restaurant was incredible! I felt at home sitting amongst the meme posters, skateboards, and fun art from artists who rival Picasso. My food was unique and delicious, pairings I would never consider until today! Thank you guys! Will be my first stop when I return to Philadelphia!
I lived in Philly for years and come into town a few times a year for work. I’m always on the lookout for a quick breakfast fix. On the last morning of my most recent work trip, I placed a pickup order. First issue: they set the pickup orders on the counter, but the names aren’t visible. In order to grab your order, you either need to wait in line to ask the cashier if it’s ready, or hover awkwardly until one of the line cooks turns around. This said, my order was hot and ready at the appointed time. Second issue: when I got back to my place to eat, I found that one of the bread slices was burned black. The other piece was fine. I ordered the standard breakfast sandwich with sausage, hold the cheese. Everything on the sandwich worked well, but the burned toast detracted from the meal. I did love the hash brown. It was well seasoned and still crisp. I’ll probably go back next time I’m in town, but I’ll unwrap the sandwich before I leave to ensure the bread is cooked properly.
Found this place on YouTube but the video we watched had the pancake that was really looking forward to trying out. Well we didn't realize there was 2 locations and this one offers a smaller meal, per the cashier. Since we weren't staying long as we were just trying to grab some breakfast and sight see a bit, we decided to just eat here instead of driving to the other location. Anyways, we ordered 2 different breakfast sandwiches and I really enjoyed mine! My boyfriend likes his but after tasting mine he agreed that mine was better because of the cheese that was melted in. It wasn't very busy when we first got there but while waiting for our sandwiches business was picking up. It took about 29 mins for our sandwiches to be made but definitely worth the wait.
