Center Cafe
600 North 7th St, St. Louis, MO
Crema's Take
“Center Cafe offers a convenient refuge for coffee lovers near the convention center, with staff who genuinely seem to care about moving guests through efficiently without sacrificing a warm greeting. While their traditional drink menu keeps things straightforward and approachable, the shop shines brightest as a reliable breakfast-and-coffee spot for people on the go, though inconsistency in both execution and customer service suggests it's worth visiting when you have patience for the occasional hiccup.”

We were in town for a competition. We saw sign up for your café and were excited to try it after my daughter was done competing for the day. We arrived at 12:45 (your closing time was 2). As we stood there looking at your menu discussing what we wanted to order, your employee leaned on the counter and just watched us. Once we decided we started to place our order, "We don't have that" OK, we will try this instead, " We don't have that" OK, what are our choices. "We have no food" We were so disappointed. I understand things run out as the day goes on. If this happens: 1.Take your signs out of the convention center hallway with your menus items trying to get people to your establishment 2. When employees see people discussing food items politely tell them you are sorry, but you are sold out for the day. Don't watch them for 5 minutes and then 1 by 1 say each item is gone. We did end up getting coffee, which was good, however, the employee was "put out" that they had to actually do something. The atmosphere would have been great, and the menu items did look very good. I just wish I could have tried them. We sat there to have our drinks and the amount of business we saw lost that day was astounding. So many people turned away looking for food.
Solid spot for coffee and breakfast! I visited a few times last month while at a conference at the convention center, and was always impressed with the staff. They moved so many people through so quickly and politely. The food and coffee were good but nothing special. Definitely a little pricey, but it was worth it for the convenience of the location and the speed of service.
I just had my worst coffee experience in a while. I walked in and they basically snapped at me. It seemed like everyone behind the counter was either having a bad day or just didn't care. The menu selection is very small. They have like 4 coffee drinks. It was also super dead in there. I was the only one there. After ordering I was just waiting to get out of there. The macchiato I got was fine. I would not recommend.
Coffee machine is not ready, needs to warm up. Staff is not properly trained, they don't know what a cortado is, in a coffee place? Excessively expensive, $4 for the macchiato I ordered... I live in NYC, we normally pay 2.50-3.00, sometimes 4.00 yes... But the rent there is definitely higher than here in St. Louis. No wonder the place was empty...
Friendly and They Had Coffee. At 8AM, Starbucks did not have any brewed coffee (dark, pikes place, blonde, nothing) and didn't have any whip cream for the espresso drinks. Center Cafe had both plus lots of space and a cool atmosphere.
