Crema's Take
“Pillar Forum is a beloved community anchor in NE Minneapolis where expertly pulled espresso and house-made matcha lattes are matched by genuinely kind baristas and exceptional pastries, making it feel less like a transaction and more like stopping by a friend's creative space. The vibrant arts-district atmosphere and seasonal specialties—like their caramel croissants that inspire actual daydreams—make this a destination worth lingering in, whether you're meeting a friend, catching up on work, or fueling up before exploring the neighborhood.”

Pillar is a staple coffee shop, cafe, and community space in the NE Minneapolis arts district. While their espresso is exquisitely crafted, I also highly recommend a matcha latte with their house made lavender honey syrup. And if it’s 5 o’ clock somewhere, they’ve got some fabulous local beer options to enjoy too. Stop in and enjoy, you won’t regret it!
Incorrect order. Very slow unfriendly service. Expensive. It took 15 minutes for the barista to make 2 matchas (which they got wrong), put cream cheese on a bagel (almost got wrong), and put a croissant in a bag. Went around 7:30am on March 3 and the barista was moving at a snails pace. There were a few (seemed like regulars) at the bar that the barista was chatting with but it didn’t even seem like that was what was slowing them down. They truly just moved like they were stuck in molasses. I was the only one in line when I arrived. Ordered a honey rosemary bagel with plain cream cheese. Many minutes after they started working on it, they come over and say “How about plain cream cheese? The other one has gone bad.” Great, that’s what I ordered anyway. Waste of time. Ordered 2 whole milk matchas with honey. They were snarky when I asked if was sweetened after they asked if I wanted to “add any flavors” to it. They ended up tasting like lavender? So something managed to go awry there anyway. To pay $25+, have it take that much time, and have the barista get 75% of the order wrong is crazy and unacceptable. Go to Momo Cafe up the street instead! I used to bike there when it first opened and it was great. Not sure what’s made it go downhill recently. Maybe this barista is just a bad egg.
Food and drinks are pretty good… might have gone with 4 stars but there was a day I came in with little money after an unexpected bill went through. The barista was nice enough to give me a discount to be able to afford coffee and a pastry- when i would’ve only been able to afford just coffee. Super sweet of them❤️ My broke booty really appreciated the kindness that day since life was sucking! Also fun they have music next door:3
We had a wonderful time stopping here before an Art class down the street! The coffee was 10/10 and so were our pastries. The atmosphere was so fun, I absolutely love the way they value sustainability. The sweet girl behind the counter was patient with me while I was being indecisive on just which coffee I wanted to try. I would love to get back here for a show!
10s across the board!!!! Wow! This place absolutely swept me up off of my feet. I had a lemonade with their seasonal flavor as well as their caramel croissant and.... *mind blown* I dream of this place now. My friend got a lavender oat latte and also thought it was splendid. The person who served us was so kind and gave the best recommendations. I didn't catch their name unfortunately, but the staff here seems so lovely. I haven't been here at night yet, but they do host shows in their show room and double as a bar! They have a tonnn of indoor seating and the view alongside all of the art is such a treat. This place is like if Caffetto was actually clean, not full of teenagers, and had nice POC/LGBTQ friendly employees lol. Such a unique and amazing find. I'll definitely be coming back to see the PILLLAR after dark vibe. There are 2 very spacious and cool looking bathrooms here! Only unfortunate thing is that there is street parking, but it's Minneapolis so what else would you expect. No biggie and I give an A+ for the fact that I didn't have to pay.
