Crema's Take

Cricket Cafe serves up hearty, generously portioned breakfast that earns real devotion from regulars—think burritos called "heavenly" and skillets that don't disappoint, with surprisingly stellar vegan options like their Portland scramble that prove they take all their diners seriously. The cafe has the warm, unpretentious vibe of a neighborhood gathering spot where families linger over coffee and conversation, though service quality can be hit-or-miss depending on who's behind the counter. Whether you're ordering off-menu sides or diving into their signature dishes, this is the kind of place that makes breakfast feel like an event rather than a quick refuel.

Their food was good but our waiter was not personable/ lacked humanity and made us feel ashamed we brought our kiddo to breakfast. We tried to use a high chair but were told yes by some and no by our waiter in a rude demeaning tone. Shout out to the waitress that made us feel human and the rest of the crew for their hospitality though. Sadly I will opt to go elsewhere and would encourage you to do the same if you have a kid even if they are well behaved as ours was too.

I ordered off the sides menu, and I made sure that he understood, because I only wanted 1 egg. Egg was $3.50, pepper bacon $4.50, biscuit $4.00 and home fried potatoes $4.00, total $16.00. The two egg breakfast was $16.00 add $4.50 for side meat. Total $21.50. I was charged $5.50 for a egg that I didn't order! Most of the food was good, except the potatoes, they were dry and almost burnt! I won't be back!!

We came here for breakfast. Our son ordered a burrito and said it was heavenly. I ordered the Down Under skillet, and it was delicious! My hubby got bacon and eggs and loved it. I would say they know how to cook excellently!

This place is bomb! The food is so delicious, probably the best breakfast I have ever had. Vegan options are incredible, I had the Portland which is tofu, potatoes and veggies topped with vegan gravy. My hubby had a traditional breakfast and also thought it was the best ever. The housemade jam is a must, can't even describe what happened when I tried it! We were just passing through Portland but I am so jealous of the people that live here and get to go to this place routinely. The service was also excellent, the staff was incredibly kind. We sat outside with our dogs, very dog friendly. I've never had trailblazer coffee but it was really fabulous.

Wet to the reopened Cricket Cafe today and received absolutely superb service from the wait staff. The new menu kept a couple of the good items, such as the Rising Sun. It added some good new items. I was very happy that they had no problem and customizing my order. The item I wanted, I forget the name, was a 4 egg omelette that had the hash browns on the inside and was covered with pork gravy. I asked to have the hash browns on the outside, and to hold the gravy, and was told no problem. The potatoes were great and I was happy they were on the outside so I could enjoy them with the aardvark hot sauce that is provided on each table. Even though the list of sides and Extras did not include A1 pancake option, I asked if I could add one pancake to my order, and to make it a blueberry pancake and was gladly accommodated. The pancake was light and fluffy, and bursting with wonderful juicy blueberries. I had my coffee cup refilled about five times. They constantly checked in to make sure that everything was good. I give it 5 stars, and I think the new owners will succeed. Everyone in the neighborhood and from Beyond could visit the reopened Cricket Cafe!
