Potter’s Shoppe & Eatery
330 5th St, Ames, IA
Crema's Take
“This charming Ames spot pairs expertly crafted coffee drinks like their standout caramel lattes with a genuinely welcoming atmosphere that feels less like a caffeine pit stop and more like a gathering place. The high ceilings, natural light, and thoughtful touches like fresh flowers on every table create the perfect backdrop whether you're settling in with a book, catching up with friends, or tackling work, while their full breakfast menu and homemade pastries—like their praised raspberry bars—prove they take their food as seriously as their coffee. What really sets Potter's apart is the warm, personable service that makes you feel like a regular from your first visit, earning it a remarkable 4.9-star reputation as the kind of place that genuinely rewards a slow sit.”

Very clean, friendly, comfortable place. Whether you want a quiet place to read or have a meeting this place works be a great choice! Loved the fresh flowers on every table and the Carmel latte was perfect.
I tried the Turkey Ruben with fruit cup and also some kind of raspberry bar to go. Surprisingly the turkey reuben sandwich surprisingly quite tasty along with Raspberry bar.
We tried this beautiful place after moving our daughter out of her dorm at Iowa State. The atmosphere was great with high ceilings, an open air vibe and lovely natural lighting. The breeze coming through the large windows was so nice as we enjoyed our meal. We came for lunch and got sandwiches and salads. Bonus for us- gluten free bread . I wish I had tried a coffee as it smelled amazing, but I will definitely be returning for that next time.
I absolutely love Potters Eatery! It’s such a super cute spot with a cozy vibe that makes you want to stay awhile. The location is perfect, and it feels like a little treat every time I stop in. The staff are always so friendly and welcoming—it feels like they really care about their customers. The menu is huge, with so many options, whether you’re in the mood for a full meal, something from the bakery, or just a really good coffee or tea. I’ve tried a few different things and everything has been delicious. It’s definitely become one of my favorite places in Ames. Can’t wait to go back!
We stopped by Potters on Saturday morning right after the Ames farmers market. We walked in and were greeted by a wonderfully personalble employee who walked us through the menu. We ordered our food and drinks and sat down outside on their well shaded patio. The music and flowers made the spot feel super comfortable. I ordered a smoothie which had real fruit pieces in it. For food I got the breakfast sandwich with bacon that was super crispy. For a side hash browns was the obvious choice. They were well done! Crispy and flavorful with different herbs. Their fruite selection was also superb. Great little cafe!
