Crema's Take
“Tucked in downtown Ankeny, this beloved cafe transforms seasonally with show-stopping holiday decor that rivals the quality of its thoughtfully sourced menu, making it as much a destination for Instagram-worthy atmosphere as it is for crispy bacon and smooth caramel lattes. The expansive, family-friendly space shines in the details—from fresh ciabatta and seasonal produce-forward dishes to baristas who genuinely care about your experience—and locals can't stop raving about how it hits that sweet spot between a serious breakfast destination and a cozy gathering place for everyone from solo travelers to large groups.”

Just a 45-minute drive 🚗 south of the 607 Guest House in Boone, Main Street Café & Bakery is absolutely worth the trip if you’re looking for a breakfast spot with beautiful atmosphere, friendly service, and unforgettable food. The café itself is warm and welcoming with plenty of seating for groups large or small, making it a great place to meet friends or gather for a relaxed breakfast. The staff are truly some of the most friendly and attentive I’ve experienced — the kind of place that makes you feel welcome the moment you walk in. Now for the star of the show — the food. I ordered the 🍓Strawberries & Cream ½ Waffle Combo, which comes with your choice of eggs, potato, and meat. I went with scrambled eggs, their deliciously seasoned and perfectly crispy breakfast potatoes, and turkey sausage. The turkey sausage actually surprised me — it had a fresh grilled flavor without being dry or overcooked, which can happen so often with turkey sausage. Honestly, the whole breakfast was a 10 out of 10 for me. The waffle 🧇was crisp with a wonderful buttery flavor and just a hint of maple. The strawberries were fresh — not from a can — and the cream… oh, the cream. It tasted like Bavarian cream, vanilla crème brûlée, and whipped cream all came together to create this incredible Main Street Café cream. Light and fluffy yet still decadent and rich — they absolutely nailed the balance. I will 100% be ordering this again. My drink was equally crafted with care — their seasonal🍀 Lucky Charms Latte (iced). The flavor was fantastic and honestly "Magically Delicious!" -Definitely Lucky approved. This has become one of my favorite spots when I’m down in the area, and it’s a place I’d happily recommend to anyone. Insider tip: come hungry and bring friends! Discovering fun and tasty places like this is part of the experience when you stay at the 607 Guest House in Boone.
Just a quick stop through on my way out of town . . . That's a real friend egg, people. The ciabatta was fresh. The bacon crispy. My caramel latte was smooth. The window guy? Super cool and chill. All good marks. Yes, and yes you should go.
You need to bring your whole family this holiday season to enjoy the amazing lights and Christmas decor! The space is very large and would easily support a company party down to a family of four. I have had multiple meals here and take out. Food is very tasty and fairly priced. Excellent Gluten-free options. My server was Maleigh and she is one of the best staff you could have to serve customers. She is extremely helpful, genuinely friendly, someone who takes an interest in helping and has with a wonderful smile. She asked me questions to help me narrow down my selection. I didn'tregret my choice. Staff make or break food establishments and she represents Main Street well!
It was decorated for Christmas which was breathtaking! They were even hung from the ceiling! I had the apple arugula salad. It was tasty but eating arugula is like trying to eat a spider. The stems are unmanageable and annoying. Even if you try to cut it up, there is no graceful way to consume it. Sadly, I won't have it again. The staff was friendly and helpful. It's a little pricey for self-serve but the decor made up for it. The ordering line was long and inconvenient for someone with mobility issues who couldn't stand long. But, it did move along pretty well. It was VERY noisy which made it difficult to visit! The decorations made it all worthwhile, though.
We love Main Street! They have a large menu with a wide variety of food. I enjoy their seasonal menu which highlights in season produce. During the holidays they go above and beyond in decorating - a great place to check out during December! They offer dine in, drive through, carry out and delivery. There are a variety of cakes and cookies also available - there is something for everyone. During busy periods it can get fairly loud so if you are looking for a more quiet environment be sure to consider that!
