Crema's Take

Tucked inside the Natural History Museum's atrium, this spot delivers unexpectedly excellent craft tacos and carefully made hot drinks in a setting that feels like a secret discovery. The small counter belies a hidden kitchen doing serious work with quality ingredients—reviewers consistently praise the fish and surf-and-turf tacos as worth the premium pricing, plus there's genuine care from the staff who make each visit memorable. It's the kind of place that transforms a museum visit into an actual culinary highlight rather than an afterthought.

Fantastic spot in the Natural History Museum atrium. The pricing on the craft tacos may seem a little on the high side but worth every penny in my opinion. We had the fish and the surf/turf craft tacos. The guac is also phenomenal.

Every time I come here to the museum, I love grabbing something from the TCT. Super convenient with delicious food and hot drinks. Their staff is super amazing! Since it’s inside the museum, it’s nice that it’s inside the atrium so you get all the vibes while having a delicious snack. My recommendation Sesame lattes Brown sugar Any of the burrito bowls Make sure you get carne asada!

We found The Craft Taco right at lunch time, though it’s in a museum so it’s hard to find at first. The counter is very small but there’s a hidden kitchen, so definitely try the tacos in addition to their cafe options. If you’re hungry, the 3-taco platter is perfect. I got the pollo, carne asada and the carnita tacos, which come with rice and beans. They came within 10 minutes and the presentation was beautiful. All of the tacos tasted amazing, meat was well-seasoned and shells were crispy yet soft— we were so impressed. As well, the staff at the counter was very kind and welcoming, a huge plus. The only thing that would lower the rating is the atmosphere, it’s a museum foyer area so keep that in mind! Otherwise, great option in Balboa Park!

Frozen phosphate-laced shrimp, I won’t argue for those; they’re pretty much everywhere now. But at least they have to be properly cooked through! The shrimp I was served was still raw in the middle (photographic evidence attached.) This is not proper food safety. Also their ordering system needs to be worked on. Very slow service as a result of an inefficient system. Having their servers walk through half the cafeteria in search of the customer has proven to be too time-consuming. The area was very crowded. Too many people for such a small food provider.

Great lunch restaurant in the natural History museum. Many gluten-free options.
