Elephantine Bakery
10 Commercial Aly, Portsmouth, NH
Crema's Take
“Tucked into Portsmouth's charming Commercial Alley, this intimate bakery draws crowds for exceptional house-made pastries and thoughtfully crafted breakfast dishes that feel simultaneously indulgent and homey. The cozy, limited seating creates a genuine "slow coffee shop" vibe where you're encouraged to linger over standout items like their legendary scones, buttery croissants, and expertly executed egg dishes on sourdough—expect a wait, but regulars insist it's absolutely worth it. The calm, friendly staff navigates the bustling space with grace, making this beloved spot feel less like a trendy cafe and more like a warm neighborhood gathering place.”

This was my first time here and I did have to wait to get inside, as the bakery is quite small with limited seating. However, It was well worth it. The food was delicious and the fresh loaf of bread was gone within hours of me, bringing it home. Looking forward to returning and trying some other dishes on the menu!
I am a scone fanatic, and when I saw I was near this bakery and they had scones I needed to try it! The scone was huge and absolutely delicious the icing was perfect! It was so hard not to order one of everything, they all looked so good 😍! The meal that I had was delicious as well and super filling, the bread was definitely fresh made or something ? It was so perfect! The only thing was the seating was crazy since it’s on the smaller side but I don’t care as long as I have access to the scones !! Totally recommend :)
I had a heavenly breakfast at the Elephantine Bakery in Portsmouth. The Poached Eggs Cilbir, served on garlic labneh with toasted sourdough bread was amazingly delicious. My husband and I also enjoyed a latte and a London Fog The staff at the restaurant were super friendly and presented me with a birthday croissant with a candle. We will definitely be back!
We saw the long line and knew it must be worth the wait. We tried the ricotta grilled sourdough, almond croissant, and pistachio croissant. All incredibly good! The staff was so calm and friendly despite how long the line was but I’d imagine that they are used to such demand. We traveled from Texas and would definitely stop again if we come back.
Beautiful bakery tucked away on the picturesque Commercial Alley in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Elephantine Bakery is a must-visit. We ordered their Pain Au Chocolat, Ricotta Lemon Danish, Ham & Cheese Croissant, and their signature Cardamom & Honey Latte. Everything was phenomenal. I can’t wait to go back and try their Ricotta and Honey Toast. Elephantine has an authentic and welcoming vibe. The staff were so friendly and patient especially since we took awhile deciding on what to get because everything was mouthwatering.
