Red Barn Coffee
6073 Hannegan Rd, Bellingham, WA
Crema's Take
“Tucked away in Bellingham, this espresso-focused spot earns serious praise for its creative signature drinks and genuinely excellent coffee craftsmanship, especially when the passionate owner is on hand to guide your order. Just know that the artistry takes time—the line moves slowly and waits can stretch past 25 minutes, so this is a place to settle in rather than dash through, though the moody, Instagram-worthy atmosphere makes lingering feel intentional rather than frustrating.”

Hate to be honest here, but my experiences at this stand are lame. The baristas are annoyed at your drink orders, don’t ask many questions or provide any reassurance for your order, they shut the window, with no engaging conversations. While pricing isn’t awful, the experience outweighs the product out for me. Not to mention too, the wait is extreme…at least 15-20 minutes in line with at least 4 cars per side, not an ideal quick grab & go spot. I’ve tried coming back multiple times to see if it gets “any better,” but unfortunately, this has been always my experience. It’s exciting to see this stand become more popular via social media, but if you’re going to be friendly/engaging in your tik toks, be true to your service.
The food is literally soooo good and the drinks are unique and fun and the espresso is top notch every time. People that are upset with the wait must have not seen the absolute artistry and work they put into each drink (and need to recognize that FAST usually doesn’t get you such GOOD service and GOOD quality.) If you want to be in and out of a drive thru with barely a hello and goodbye, then go to Starbucks. THESE guys make your drink with love and are so sweet. It’s worth a few extra minutes, ESPECIALLY when you’re getting such deliciousness!!!
My wife and I stopped by today for our second visit. Our first time was amazing. The owner was there, and you could truly tell how passionate she is about her business. The customer service was excellent, the coffee and food were amazing, and the presentation was outstanding. Unfortunately, today was the complete opposite. The customer service was disappointing. The coffee was still good, but the presentation was lacking. It felt like when the owner isn’t there, the employees don’t show the same level of care. The girl who handed me my food didn’t appear friendly or welcoming and had a RBF look. We plan to give it another try next week because this place clearly has a lot of potential. I just hope the owner realizes she has a gold mine, and the only thing that could bring it down is inconsistent service from employees.
The weight was really long with only two cars ahead of me and waiting there for over 25 minutes each car only being handed one drink. The coffee is and atmosphere were really cute and instagrammable, however mine didn't come with the pastry on top like it said it would, and there was really no flavor in the drink itself, basically just tasted like black coffee with a little bit of milk.
Fun drinks and decent food but very slow service. Red barn is on my way to work and there has been multiple instances now where I have had to drive away before getting to the front of the line after waiting 15+ minutes in the drive thru. If there is a car in front of you it takes 10 minutes to get to the front of the line, then another 10 minutes to get your drinks and food. It is not really somewhere you can just stop for coffee on the way to work/school unless you really plan ahead.
