Crema's Take

Tucked unassumingly in a Madison strip mall, Mercies opens into a surprisingly spacious and inviting refuge with a cozy fireplace that feels less like a coffee shop and more like a living room where good conversations actually happen. Their espresso drinks are crafted with real care—think perfectly balanced mochas and crispy croissants—and the generous seating and welcoming vibe make it equally suited for focused work sessions, intimate meetings, or just lingering over a cappuccino with friends.

Very sweet little spot with a great amount of seating for working or relaxing. A large table in one room seems great for larger groups. I love the fireplace, the service was great, and I enjoyed the music. I had a breakfast sandwich but I want to go back and try a smoothie!

Really cosy and warm atmosphere. I feel like I stepped in into a meeting place where good conversations take place. Enjoyed the cappuccino and the croissant was surprisingly crispy. Glad I could support this place and its mission in this simple way.

The entrance is very low key and unassuming, but opens up to a spacious and inviting sitting area. The mocha tasted as perfect as it looked. Great balance of sweetness and chocolatey bitterness. Comfortable seating and table spacing. Free wifi. Loved it.

Found this place on a whim, looking for coffee before a shift. It’s located in a strip mall so I was a bit skeptical at first. However, this place was actually pretty neat! The iced vanilla latte with oat milk was super fresh. The staff were very friendly. There was plenty of seating to get work done, as well as couches and a fireplace to relax or hang out. Ordered to go so I don’t know if they have glass cups for if you’re staying in, but that would’ve been bonus points! Wouldn’t really go super out of my way away from the main Madison or campus area for this place, but if I’m out in that area then I’ll definitely go back!

Mercies was certainly a hidden gem for me! I am always over there for the Princeton Club or passing by it to go to Hobby Lobby or Target. I never really noticed it until recently. I am currently studying for my bar exam as I just graduated from UW's law school and have been wanting to take this as an opportunity to try out cafes/coffee shops in the Madison area. I live on the east side so it was very fitting I start over there. The place was SO CUTE. There was a couch area with a cute little fire pit. It was not on but I imagine it can be turned on; it seemed to be electric. They get some options from Madison Sourdough for bread and I ordered a breakfast sandwich that came with sourdough bread. It was DIVINE! It was also the first time in a long time that I got a cute little design on my coffee so I loved that. I was able to get comfortable and get some studying done for a couple of hours. It was very relaxing. The only downside I have is that I wish there was a bit larger/different selection of baked goods and breakfast meals. Maybe I am just picky though. . .
