Crema's Take
“This cozy Rainey Street corner store punches well above its weight, serving up quality coffee and prepared food that feels thoughtfully curated rather than convenient. The vibe is genuinely warm—reviewers consistently mention it feels like a neighborhood hug, with staff who transform a quick coffee run into a cheerful interaction. It's the kind of local spot where you grab your espresso, chat with friendly faces, and feel like you've stumbled onto Austin's best-kept secret, even if the prices reflect its prime location.”

As always, your favorite 🌎 traveled friend comes to you with another 5 🌟 review! Today's 5 🌟 review goes to "Royal Blue Grocery" on "Rainey Street."" Let me start by telling you this was such a pleasant surprise to visit a downtown grocery store that had so many 'healthy' options to choose from! In a lot of the major cities that I visit, downtown markets are filled with unhealthy snacks and junk food! Not this place! The shelves were filled with so many 'nutritious' choices that I was blown away! I must give a special shout out to the young "Venezuelan" lady who introduced me to my new favorite drink! "Thirsty Vaquero!" This is a sparkling 💧that is flavored and sweetened with 100% real AGAVE. Once again, a big shout out to the "Royal Blue Grocery" on Rainey Street!
Apr2024: 4⭐: I could recommend this local corner grocery store. I stopped by this location looking for a few specific items of interest. It is a small store but it had several of the items that I needed in a timely manner. I noted that this store had what appeared to be fresh baked items on the shelves as well. I noted there were shelves of wine available in the store as well. As expected, I knew items in this city area would be expensive, but I was surprised with this store. I made my selection quickly and went to the register. The small store does have the ability to use digital pay at the register. I noticed that while I was trying to pay it asked me if I wanted to leave a tip before I paid my bill. I thought it was interesting that this store had a mandatory selection on the software program that asked for a tip. Why should I tip when I am the one selecting the groceries that I am paying for in the store and walking them to the cash register ? It just seemed to be a little bit...over the top. Either way, the store was orderly and clean upon my arrival and departure.
Royal Blue Grocery is a neighborhood gem! Walking in feels like a warm hug from Austin itself. The staff is super friendly, turning a grocery run into a cheerful experience. They've got your essentials, a cozy coffee spot, and a menu for light meals that hits the spot. Vegans, you're covered too – they've got a fantastic plant-based selection. It's not just a store; it's a slice of home right in the neighborhood.
Try getting these kinds of items delivered and stocked on Rainey Street at big grocery chain prices. It is city living prices... I applaud them for making it a viable business. They have everything from fresh produce to hot made sandwiches on demand. They also have a very nice selection of wines and beer. I have had some really good experiences here... not the least of which have been the over-the-top service. I could not recommend this place more than 5 stars.
The selection and quality of products is quite good considering its location and size. The location is very convenient for many as well. The prepared food although not cheap is delicious. The coffee is good as well, but cups aren't filled hence you're always getting one size of a coffee less than you paid for.
