Crema's Take

This cozy Portland spot mills matcha in-house, which is a genuine point of pride, though reviewers have mixed feelings about whether that translates to consistently bold flavor in drinks like their matcha lattes and creative ube matcha blends. The atmosphere is genuinely lovely with friendly staff and a slow, inviting vibe, making it a place worth visiting for the experience and novelty even if the matcha itself occasionally comes across as subtle rather than assertive.

Atmosphere is good, but the drinks are not. We ordered a cup of hot tea, 3 Matcha latte and the matcha&straberry soft serve ice cream. Matcha Latte is watery and nearly tasteless, me and my family don't really taste the matcha(tbh the first time seeing my mom giving bad comment on matcha) The tea is just a tea bag dipping in hot water and serve, we couldn't enjoy the flavor of tea, it will be better if that tea could be pre-brewed so it has enough time to release the flavor. The ice cream is sweet and just sweet, not creamy enough and I could still feel the ice crystal in it. Did not taste the matcha in it, regret on ordering this. I am a bit disappointed :( edit to reply: lol yeah why people review? coz I am triggered, either strongly surprised or disappointed, in this case the second one. Maybe you the owner are pretending this is a fake review, but sadly no :D , if it's that much matcha and customer still say cannot taste it, consider the matcha quality(oh hey maybe the milk too). I know good matcha is extremely expensive, so actually with this price I am OK and won't be mad with things under expectations. Since you are still doing soft openings, I am happy to told you my experience so you could figure out and maybe make some improvement in the future. If you are seeing bad comments coming in try treating them seriously? edit edit: I have to say I can't stop giggling while reading the comments and replies. MAKO, looks like we might share the same sense of humor. Glad you enjoyed the review. I might have more for you. Just to clarify, yes, I ordered the matcha latte unsweetened on purpose. I actually prefer tasting the matcha itself rather than covering it with sugar. When your staff mentioned the drinks were unsweetened, I was honestly excited because it sounded like the shop was confident in the matcha flavor. That was also why the result felt disappointing. The matcha latte we received was quite watery and lacked the depth and umami that good matcha normally has. This was not about expecting sweetness. It was simply about expecting to taste the matcha. It is also interesting to see the owner spending so much energy arguing with customers in the review section, questioning and judging their taste instead of taking the feedback. Especially when the drinks were already purchased and people are simply sharing their honest impressions. But I have to admit the whole comment section has been quite entertaining. It definitely made my Sunday and probably my Blue Monday a little more interesting too. Thanks MAKO.

Hours are correct. I bought matcha ube latte hot and my friend got the hochija iced latte. I tasted 0 ube. For the price yeah it’s a deal. Just tastes like lightly matcha flavored milk. So save a dollar if u just want matcha. My friends drink did not taste good to either of us. The ambience was nice and service was fast.

Lovely new place with very friendly staff. Tried a bunch of their new drinks. Matcha was good- no sweetener I believe but tasted maybe a tad watery? Still very above average and would get again. Oolong milk was pretty low key- not bad, but wouldn’t get it again. Being very critical to try to give honest feedback. Service made a very big difference though. Such sweet people. Support your local business, so glad they’re open!

I was very excited to try this place out after seeing they mill the matcha in house. My experience was lovely, the staff were super nice and the vibes of the shop were there, the matcha was just alright, not bad by any-means just maybe missing something. However I think it’s important that they be given grace as the shop did just “open” (they’re not officially open yet hence the smaller menu.) They are still learning and growing and mistakes will happen, I am happy to support this blooming business and am very excited to try them again in the near future.❤️

I stumbled upon Mako Matcha during their soft opening today and I’m so happy I did. I tried their ube matcha latte, loved the matcha flavor and the ube wasn’t too sweet. The interior was cozy although I took my drink to go. I will absolutely be back!
