Crema's Take

Scoops La Jolla is a charming La Jolla fixture that scoops creative ice cream flavors like earl grey, blueberry corn, and honeycomb alongside sweet crepes, earning consistent praise from locals who appreciate both the quality ingredients and the genuine hospitality. The sunny outdoor-only patio setup means you might wait in line, but the friendly staff and thoughtful details—like using real spoons instead of plastic—create a genuinely welcoming vibe that keeps people coming back. Fair warning: at $9 per scoop, it's positioned as an indulgent treat rather than an everyday stop, but the unique flavor combinations and community spirit justify the splurge.

Stopped at Scoops La Jolla and ordered a banana, strawberry and Nutella crepe. A simple trio. Hard to misinterpret. To be fair, there was a faint suggestion of Nutella and a modest scattering of strawberries. Banana was completely absent until I asked for it — at which point it appeared, as though it had been an optional upgrade rather than a listed ingredient. The real surprise, however, was the texture. The crepe had all the softness of a San Francisco fortune cookie — crisp, brittle, and structurally ambitious. Not quite what you hope for when ordering something traditionally warm and pliable. For $13, I was expecting generous filling and a fresh, soft crepe. Instead, it went in the bin after a few bites. In fairness, my wife’s ice cream was genuinely nice. I suppose that’s what you get for ordering a crepe from somewhere called “Scoops.” Lesson learned.

Not only was the ice cream fabulous, but I left my wallet there and they took the time to google me and find a social account tied to an organization I’m involved with to let them know I had left it. This was the night before we were leaving San Diego and I hadn’t even noticed. Crisis diverted! They were accommodating and kind waiting for us to get back to retrieve it. My 8 year old says they deserve 30,304 stars, but 5 will have to do here!

Cute spot with outdoor seating, though there’s no indoor seating and it can get a bit of a line. I had the brown sugar butter cinnamon crepe and thought it was tasty, but I’d suggest flattening the butter instead of adding it in scoops, it didn’t spread well and felt way too heavy, one scoop would have been enough for me. My friend had the peanut butter something ice cream, which was fine, but it’s just Van Leeuwen, not homemade, so that was a bit of a letdown for me personally. Overall, a nice spot for a sweet treat,a bit pricey but nothing crazy.

Cute place & friendly staff. Had the honeycomb in a waffle cone and it was yumm! Although found it pricey being $9 for a single scoop. Loved the fact that they were using actual spoons instead of plastic and avoided giving too many napkins and paper receipt. Thanks a lot folks for being good for the planet. “Sweet life” indeed

Have been coming for a while now. Great ice cream and usually busy but the line moves fairly fast. Tried the blueberry corn ice cream and wasn’t disappointed. Love the earl grey ice cream but they were out of the honeycomb.
