Blue Bottle Coffee - Harvard Square
40 Bow St, Cambridge, MA
Crema's Take
“This Harvard Square outpost trades cozy intimacy for a bright, modern aesthetic that feels more gallery than hideaway, with a serious espresso program and pour-over precision that appeals to coffee purists willing to linger over a single cup. The vibe is decidedly work-friendly with solid wifi, though reviews suggest the welcoming barista energy can be hit-or-miss, and the Harvard location's sleek minimalism doesn't quite capture the warmth some visitors crave. If you're seeking meticulously crafted specialty drinks and pastries in a design-forward space, it delivers—just know the premium pricing and occasional service inconsistency mean it's more "destination coffee" than neighborhood refuge.”

Must-visit when in Boston! Any Blue Bottle location lives up to the hype. The coffee is excellent, with great attention to detail, and the baristas are friendly and welcoming. Had some quite a tasting coffee flight and it was superb! Blue Bottle never disappoints!
Disappointing and I won’t be returning. A coffee shop should be a warm, welcoming space, but I feel this one has missed the mark entirely. My few visits were frustrating enough to unfortunately dislike the place. The atmosphere felt cold from the moment I walked in, the barista didn’t say hello, didn’t smile (a smile is a welcoming sign, and it is FREE by the way!) and worse, they didn’t listen to my order properly and seemed uninterested in correcting it. I asked for an extra hot drink on all my visits, but I didn’t get more than a warm one. I returned the coffee in one of the visits and asked them to correct it as I like my drink extra hot, I just got the same thing, warm! they seemed more interested in chatting with each other than helping a customer. I am not sure what they will LOSE in making the customer happy and get what they asked for?! I visited another blue bottle café in different locations, and they are better. I went there because I liked their coffee bean and I live in Cambridge, MA near the store and also didn’t like to judge on one visit, but there are plenty of great coffee spots in town and this just isn’t one of them. Thanks.
Cafe Latte L with extra shot(9.9$) It was my first time trying blue bottle coffee and I didn’t rly like it… I don’t feel like it’s high quality coffee and regarding the price, it wasn’t satisfying 💀 Service was not bad, and the mood is clean and good. Suitable for studying
It's a shame that they have a nice location and presumably good coffee and deserts but they are unable to make people enjoy it. I hope it was just my experience but, when I got there, the place was basically empty and I ordered a flat white and a blueberry cake. They gave me the coffee in a paper cup and the blueberry in a paper bag, even when they had real cups and plates available and no one was waiting. I didn't ask it to go. I sat at a table and couldn't enjoy the coffee not only because of that but also due to the fact that the two baristas had a very unfriendly attitude and didn't even respond when I said goodbye. I hope I have another chance to go there again and have a good experience so I can update this review. Hopefully I'm an exception and most people enjoy their time there.
There are stairs to enter blue bottle coffee. It was only slightly difficult to find given construction nearby. There are a few tables for sitting with a mix of people trying to work and enjoying weekend coffee. I liked the latte with whole milk a lot. Blue Bottle Coffee might be the most expensive coffee shop near Harvard Square but I’d definitely recommend it for an occasional treat or for coming with another friend.
