Broadsheet Coffee Roasters
100 Kirkland St, Cambridge, MA
Crema's Take
“This Cambridge roastery strikes that rare balance of being genuinely packed with people yet spacious enough to actually settle in with your laptop or a friend—the kind of place that somehow feels both energetic and cozy at once. Their espresso-forward approach shines through in carefully balanced shots with real complexity, whether you're getting a standard cappuccino or diving into something special like a gesha, and the pastries, particularly their impossibly layered cheddar cheese scones, are clearly made with the same precision as their coffee. It's the sort of spot where taking your breakfast to class made perfect sense, and where you'll genuinely want to stick around to explore their rotating roasts.”

A coffee shop and bakery that's always packed--taking breakfast to class was such a smart move! Cheddar Cheese Scone: The best scone I've ever seen. Layers were distinct and as thin as a cicada's wing, with a delicate texture and incredible airiness. Cheddar cheese and butter created just the right amount of saltiness and an intensely creamy flavor, topped with the spicy aroma of black pepper. Every bite was a delight for my taste buds. Sticky Bun: A visibly high-calorie bomb, but so delicious you'll never forget it. The croissant dough was also perfectly flaky, with a thin layer of caramelized crust and pecans topping. The former was sweet and sticky, the latter sweet and crunchy, creating a rich and layered flavor. Both of these items are from Seven Stars Bakery in Rhode Island, and here seems to be just a distributor for their central kitchen. They also have their own baking line, but it seems to produce less and have a limited selection. Latte, Cafe Au Lait: Both coffees were more bitter and stronger than usual.
☕️1 BEAN : A clean and focused espresso with a light body and gentle sweetness. The shot showed good balance, with soft citrus in the high notes and a mild floral lift. The finish settled quickly and stayed tidy. A very good experience that reflects solid craft. An incredible 1 Bean experience. balance, and craft.
I love how big this cafe is and that it has a pretty good amount of seating available to do work. Not too loud and a cozy spot in Cambridge to do work! I ordered a decafel cappuccino and a chocolate croissant. Cappuccino was bitter but maybe because I ordered a decaf. The chocolate croissant was not bad.
Great cafe and lovely place to work or hang out at. Coffee is maybe slightly more roasted than I'd like, but good overall. I tried the featured espresso (a gesha!) in a cortado and it was pretty fruity and flavorful. Consistency was great and the latte art was nice too. Kouign amann was also delicious. Music isn't too loud, and the playlist is awesome.
I rode my bike here to meet a friend for coffee. I was pleased to find out that they offer a great selection of brew types and coffee roasts. I definitely want to come back and buy a bag of roasted beans. I ended up ordering a regular espresso and it made me really happy when they served it with a small glass of sparkling water to cut through the tanginess. All this to say I enjoyed my espresso experience here. In terms of coffee shop vibes this place checks all the boxes. The seating area was light and airy, well decorated with plants, and setup with ample seating options. I am excited to come back here again!
