Crema's Take
“Union Kitchen is a neighborhood gem in Eckington that brilliantly blends a specialty coffee shop, bodega, and sandwich counter into one welcoming space, where baristas like Ermine bring genuine warmth to each order alongside thoughtfully crafted drinks like their standout almond butter latte. Stop by for Maya's exceptional sandwiches—regulars swear by the bacon and avocado—fresh pastries, and Compass Coffee, then linger over a slow cup in a space that feels more like visiting a knowledgeable friend than grabbing coffee.”

I love this place. I first found it while visiting a friend who lived near but I come here so much. The sandwiches from Maya are SO GOOD. For breakfast I always get the bacon & avocado and for subs I love the chicken pesto!! It’s kind of expensive but worth it.
Myah and Jr are always awesome at Union Kitchen. It’s my go-to neighborhood bodega in Eckington. The shop has great food, fresh pastries, Compass Coffee, a solid wine selection, and all the quick grocery essentials you might need in a pinch. Friendly staff, quality products, and a convenient local spot that makes everyday errands easy. Highly recommend.
The almond butter latte was amazing! Ermine was really friendly and helpful. When I asked about vegan options, she offered to pass on that feedback to her manager since there were a few people who had asked about them this week, which I really appreciated. Additionally, I appreciate that there is no extra charge for milk substitutions!
Ermine was such a great barista and cashier. She has a comforting smile that adds to the character and charm of this beautiful establishment .
I hate to be too critical of this place because it does serve an important need in the neighborhood for small grocery stores, but this place has gone downhill. The customer service has been very inconsistent. The people behind the counter are often rude or dismissive for no reason which is frustrating. If you order any of their sandwiches the quality varies massively. I’ve had many orders missing multiple items or just straight up drenched in sauce ruining the whole thing. The selection of frozen food and snack food is also very lackluster. I get that it’s a brand accelerator type place but the options they have are so unappealing. The final thing, price. Everything here cost so much. You’re paying so much more to get basic things from this place. Altogether, it’s not a lost cause but could really use a revamp in terms of service, quality, and price.
