Black Kahawa

Crema's Take
“Black Kahawa stands out as Columbus's hidden gem for adventurous coffee lovers, with a personable owner in Douglas and talented baristas like Justin who elevate everything from meticulously crafted espresso to creative signature drinks like the Zanzibar Spice Latte. The intimate downtown space strikes that rare balance of being calm and focused enough for deep work while still feeling warm and welcoming for genuine conversation, though their commitment to specialty service means you'll experience your coffee in proper glassware rather than disposables. Whether you're catching an espresso martini before closing or settling in for an afternoon of productivity, this spot delivers the kind of thoughtful coffee experience that keeps people coming back.”

Coffee quality might be nice however I have real issue with coffee shops that serve in disposables when orders aren’t to go. Beyond the waste itself this dilutes the coffee shop experience as a whole - holding that warm cup on hand, etc. Also, pricing left something be desired. Our cortado’s were served in tiny paper cups akin to that from a doctors office, over $13+ for two of them… I wanted to love the coffee and the interior aesthetic of the shop implies that someone takes pride in this place - pricing and service however are not in alignment with that. Cupping is as important as the coffee itself and the pricing and service presentation will not support repeat visits.
Easily one of the most underrated coffee spots in Columbus. I stopped in before work and immediately loved the location and decor. I ordered the Zanzibar Spice Latte and was hooked from the first sip. The flavors were warm, unique, and memorable. This is a place I will definitely be revisiting and continuing to support.
Douglas, the owner was so personable and Justin, made the best espresso martini! We walked in at probably a few minutes to 10pm and out at 10:40. We had no idea until we left that they closed at 10. These gentleman were so professional, did not rush us and engaged us in conversation the whole time. We’re sorry we kept you late and appreciate the hospitality! Best of luck with an amazing place Douglas! We’ll be back for coffee in the morning!
I’ve been here a couple times and it’s always a great work environment. The staff is friendly to chat with but it’s still calm enough to get work done. Coffee and drinks are both great. Espresso martini options are a little on the pricey side but are $5 off during happy hour! They have mini containers of Jeni’s to make affogatos with! I haven’t tried them yet but every time I see the staff make them I’m tempted
My favorite coffee from the Colombus Coffee Festival and still does not disappoint. Love the new location. Small but what do you expect downtown? Still excellent coffee. The owner is super friendly. One suggestion: don’t roast beans while the store is open and patrons are there. VERY noisy. Otherwise great experience and loved it.
