Crema's Take
“Tucked into the back corner of Streets Market, Little Hat Coffee punches well above its modest size with inventive seasonal drinks like orange blossom lattes alongside meticulously crafted espresso drinks that even discerning regulars trust completely. The small counter delivers fresh pastries and full breakfast options with the same care they pour into each matcha latte, making it worth the hunt to the back of the neighborhood grocery store.”

I have heard a lot of great things about this place, so my boyfriend and I decided to try it today. We ordered two unsweetened matcha lattes, one with whole milk and one with oat milk, to really taste the quality of the matcha. While waiting, I noticed they store their matcha in clear containers, which isn’t ideal since light exposure can cause oxidation and affect the flavor and color. On the plus side, they whisk each drink fresh to order. I also noticed the straws weren’t individually wrapped, so we chose to sip through the lids instead. The oat milk version was really disappointing, the oat flavor completely overpowered the matcha, and it just tasted like green oat milk. They might want to consider an oat milk that pairs better. The whole milk version was better, it’s earthy and nutty with subtle umami notes, but not very creamy or sweet. It was slightly astringent and left a bit of dryness in my throat and mouth. Overall, we would rate their matcha 7/10. It’s not bad with whole milk, but there are definitely better matcha options out there.
Little Hat Coffee is hands down one of my favorite spots. The food is always fresh and delicious, and the coffee is amazing every single time. I’m pretty picky about my caramel macchiato and other places almost always mess it up, but here it’s always perfect. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, which makes the whole experience even better. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!
Coffee Shop No. 502 Little Hat Coffee Washington, DC April 24, 2025 Little Hat Coffee maybe small and sit quietly in the back corner of Streets Market, a neighborhood grocery store, but it’s serving up some mighty bold and big coffee! The cortado was not only smooth with just the right balance of espresso and milk it also had a distinctive taste. The shop uses A Toda Madre Roasters. Simply delicious. I thought the prices were fair. The shop had a line the whole time I was in the store, but I didn’t wait long for my cortado. Seating is definitely limited. I think I only saw one or two stools. If you’re in ever in the Columbia Heights neighborhood looking for a quick high quality espresso drink crafted by friendly baristas, Little Hat Coffee will definitely meet your expectations! Enjoying life one cortado at a time
Finally got to try little hat! They have unique drinks available along with the standard coffee and tea options. I wanted to try a seasonal special so I went with the orange blossom latte. It was more on the floral side and didn’t have much of the orange flavor I was expecting, but it was still good and sweet! My friend tried their hojicha and added date caramel syrup and loved it. The employees were very friendly and our drinks were made quickly. It’s located inside streets market which is convenient for grocery shopping and picking up a little sweet treat on the way out.
A coffee shop inside a market is always a good idea and Little Hat Coffee is worth a visit. Step inside Streets Market and head to the very back near the registers. Here you'll find a little coffee shop with bar seating only. The menu is small, but mighty. They have lattes, espresso, cappuccino, and more. Tea is on the menu and a few specialty drinks like an Orange Blossom Tamarind Fizz. My vanilla latte was chef's kiss- creamy, flavorful, and so nice. It was just over $6.
