Clear Flour Coffee Bar

180 Thorndike St, Brookline, MA

Crema's Take

This energetic Brookline spot pairs exceptional pastries and baked goods with a focused espresso program, split cleverly into two separate entrances that keep the vibe buzzing without feeling chaotic. The cappuccinos land beautifully and the atmosphere hums with active music, though fair warning: this is a grab-and-go paradise rather than a lingering kind of place. Come for their excellent croissants and jambon beurre alongside genuinely solid coffee, and you'll understand why locals keep coming back.

This spot functions as both a bakery and a café, and I really appreciated that they have two separate entrances, it keeps things from feeling overcrowded, which is a nice touch. We didn’t end up trying the baked goods because the line was long, but honestly, that says a lot. The line was still long at 2 p.m., not just during the morning rush! A crowd like that in the afternoon is definitely a testament to how popular (and probably delicious) their pastries are. We’ll have to go back to try them. We did sample their coffee menu. They offer regular coffee, classic lattes, and specialty lattes. We opted for the specialty lattes for the added flavor. I could tell the coffee itself was high quality, but the flavored syrups didn’t quite hit the mark for us. I imagine a regular latte would be a solid choice, but we weren’t big fans of the specialty flavors.

Great cappuccino! Nice atmosphere, active music 🎶, but no place to sit. Come here for the vibes and good coffee, but this is not a sit down and relax place.

Clear Flour Coffee Bar is a Coffee shop associated with the Clear Flour Bakery next store, serving a wide range of drinks such as coffee and matcha. They also sell a few other things here. Although they are associated with clear flour bakery, you cannot order bread through this store, which may be a bit confusing if you're new. We tried an earl grey matcha, where their was a good earl grey flavor within the drink, but the matcha taste was a little lacking. It was overall a good drink, but may need extra matcha to bring out the matcha taste.

I went into the coffee bar next to the Clear Flour bakery because they started selling the Orange Chignon only in the coffee bar and not in the bakery like they used to. I picked up their Jambon Beurre to try and really liked the sandwich. It has a good amount of ham and butter and not too salty. I had also tried the ham and cheese sandwich on a different day. It's smaller than the ham and butter version but has a good amount of ham. However, it was way too salty. At $15, it's not as good a value as the other. I did notice there was a weight difference between the two ham and cheese sandwiches that I bought. I weighed them just because I had the digital scale on the counter. There was about 1.4 oz difference between the 2 sandwiches. Need better quality control? I wish they would continue to sell the Orange Chignon at the bakery as well. This way I don't have to get in 2 lines just to get my regular weekly baked goods.

10/10 for their bakery, but a 6/10 for their coffee. Their coffee wasn’t extraordinarily impressive like so many people recommended it to be, but the bakery was AMAZING. The staff was so so sweet and amazing and gave me recommendations on coffee and bakeries in the area since I’ve been touring and reviewing a bunch in the greater Boston area. I got the golden latte and although it was good, it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. I did love that they had a “pay it forward” area where you could buy someone’s coffee for them! The vibes of this place are definitely unmatched.
