TM Ward Coffee Co
944 Broad St, Newark, NJ
Crema's Take
“Tucked away in Newark, this espresso-focused spot is a word-of-mouth gem that rewards those who seek it out with an intoxicating blend of serious coffee craftsmanship and a surprisingly excellent food program. The baristas here take their pour overs and specialty drinks seriously, creating the kind of aromatic haven where coffee lovers feel genuinely understood and well-fed. While service can be inconsistent, the quality of both their beans and breakfast offerings keeps devoted customers coming back.”

Way to ruin a wonderful morning. The cashier wasn't paying attention to the barista, rang me up incorrectly, and then chased me out of the store to yell at me for “underpaying”. Being treated like a thief over a $2 internal error is unacceptable and unprofessional. I’ve been a regular lately since my usual spot’s espresso machine has been down, but after being publicly accused and insulted, I won't be returning.
In spite of Google search failing to list TMWard under “coffee”, I found them by word of mouth while working in Newark for the day. What an amazing coffee shop! Lots of bean, blends and great fresh coffee to choose from. One of the owners let me pick the bean for my cortado yesterday! The young Ward was working with his team and took time to greet all the local folks filling the shop at 9:30a. There are over 20 varieties of brewed coffee to choose from everyday. Google did not list this historic expert gem of a coffee house when I tried to search “coffee” and as a dedicated Google user and level 6 guide I’m reporting the gap to help make this right and list TMWard.
Ordered a "didiesse frog espresso machine" in DEC24. Never really used it due to travel. Used it a few times after season of travel halted. Machine came to me with a broken steamer - and was not extracting as l've seen it done before. Reached out for customer support later - sent it back (had to pay for shipping) - then wouldn't get any updates as to what was done to it - asked for pictures / updates (I did this so I know they were working on this and not holding onto my asset to make it seem like they were working on it). I also asked for my asset's steamer to be put back on...2ish weeks pass by - they tell me I need new espresso pods. So I bought the pods. They then tell me I need to pay for shipping from them to me. Asset comes back with more or less the same way of bubble wrap I did when I shipped it - but new tape job on my box. Steamer was not attached as per my request - machine now is still working the same way as before...dribbling the weak espresso shot. Communication was horrid. I have no trust that they actually worked on my asset - as they never updated me. All I asked for was an update every other week - I wanted to know that issue as to why my machine is not as good as the ones I am used to...radio silence. I've descaled my espresso machine, cleaned, and bought the new espresso pods - still working as when I first bought it: Defective asset. My family has this same machine in Costa Rica. When they visited and I told them I got this "worked on" - I then pulled them an espresso shot and my family guaranteed me that this isn't a normal pull. I'd like customer service to reach out to me immediately to discuss this further to refund me the money I spent on this asset - and refund the shipping as l am positive this asset was sitting in the back and was truly not worked on until I kept kindly harassing them via email about updates.
Not only is the coffee here fantastic, but the food is surprisingly great too. I ordered a latte and a breakfast sandwich, and both were delicious. The sandwich was fresh, warm, and filling — way better than what you’d expect from a coffee shop. The latte was smooth and creamy, exactly how I like it. The staff was friendly and made the whole experience easy. The shop has a relaxed vibe that makes you want to stay and hang out. The décor is stylish without trying too hard. Prices are fair, especially given the portion sizes. Everything tasted fresh, which makes a big difference. It’s rare to find a coffee shop that nails both drinks and food. I’ll definitely be back for breakfast again soon.
If you're a Avid coffee drinker this is a must stop if you're in Newark. The smell is intoxicating as you walk through the door you're hit with multiple coffee Aromas with the mixture of Sweetness from the candies and the roasting of the nuts. The Latte is unbelievably good huge selection of different roasts and different beans lots of assortments a nuts in fresh dried fruits along with candies and chocolate covered everything
