Retro House Asian Bistro
934 E Henderson Ave, Tampa, FL
Crema's Take
“Tucked into Ybor's vibrant streets, this cozy Asian bistro doubles as a local art gallery where carefully crafted specialty drinks and traditional teas share the spotlight with unexpectedly stellar comfort food—think umami-packed udon and hand-rolled bao perfected over years of dedication. The mom-and-pop energy is undeniable, with an owner who'll chat about the seven-year spice journey behind their fries while you settle in for a slow, leisurely afternoon surrounded by rotating local artwork on the walls. It's the kind of place that rewards wandering in, whether you're after an exceptional matcha, a specialty coffee, or simply a genuine human experience.”

The food was delicious and flavorful. I got the 'Shroomami Udon and it’s so good you want to keep eating it even when you are full. The Vegan Char Siu Mushroom Bao (also pictured) were surprisingly good. There was some sweetness to them but the flavor of them was good and so was the texture. I forgot to take a pic of the Curry Tofu Fried Rice and it was insanely good and flavorful. It has a little kick to it. The tofu was perfectly cooked. I love how they have a separate entrance for pickup which made it super easy for us to pickup our order. The online menu clearly has the vegan items listed which we appreciated so much. My friend got the same udon and she loved it too.
What a vibe! An absolute joy of a dining experience. The fried rice and bao were top notch. They also promote and sell local artists work on their walls as part of the decor. All around wonderful experience. Can't wait to go back and try more, especially for bunch. We went for dinner. The brunch menu looked just as amazing if not more. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Love this little Asian coffee spot so much. The French fries were amazing. The owner shared that they’ve been perfecting the spice blend for seven years, and it absolutely shows. Overall, the food was great, thoughtfully prepared, and full of flavor. I especially loved my lavender matcha, which was non-dairy and perfectly balanced. Such a cozy, welcoming place. I’ll definitely be back. ☕️✨ If you want it a touch shorter or more casual, I can tweak it.
A small, mom and pop Asian Food and drinks locale, Retro House was a wonderful find for us while visiting Ybor in Tampa! Food and customer service were gorgeous, and coffee and specialty teas delightful. We had all the dumpling options, and our group favorite was the Lemongrass Chicken Dumplings. The others were just as delicious and well made, but if we had to pick one, it would be the one. We also tried the Chilli Wontons (my favorite), the Kare Chicken & Mushroom Puff, the Pork & Shrimp bao, and the Vegan Mushroom bao, and loved all of those as well! Everything was sooo fresh, tasty, and not overly salted! The accompanying sauces were also very delicious, and you can taste the individual ingredients it was so well balanced. While we waited on our food, which arrived in a timely manner, we enjoyed the retro and chill vibe, artwork by local artists, and our drinks, a Passion Mango Green Tea, a Vanilla Spice Latte, the Yuan Yang Latte, and a Purple Haze. The coffees and teas were all on point and so good, we had to order more to go! And since we do not get as great a Chinese food option in the Destin / FL panhandle area, we made a point to stop by the next day on our way out of town. If you're in Ybor, or local area, give them a try! You will not be disappointed! Wish the owners the best and we can't wait to come back on our next visit so we can stop back by for good drinks, great eats and wonderful service.
Let me just say — Retro House is a true diamond in the rough! Located right in the Ybor area, my girlfriend and I have passed by this spot countless times, never realizing how absolutely amazing it is inside. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by a beautiful woman with the warmest, most genuine welcome. She immediately asked if we’d been there before, and when we said it was our first time, she took the time to explain everything about the place. It’s an incredible coffeehouse that not only serves fantastic food, but also radiates positive energy and good vibes from every corner. The space is vibrant, comfortable, and just makes you feel happy to be there. We started off with lattes — my girlfriend ordered the Flower Child Latte (pistachio and rose) while I went with the Honey Pie Latte (honey and cinnamon). Both were absolutely delicious! 😋 Then came the food — and wow, we were blown away. We tried: Bolo Char Siu Bao – a soft, sweet baked Hong Kong pineapple bun filled with savory char siu pork Kung Pao Chicken Mochi – crispy yet chewy dumplings filled with chicken, peanuts, and veggies in a flavorful Kung Pao sauce Steamed Char Siu Bao – the classic fluffy bun filled with tender char siu pork Each dish was bursting with flavor and honestly brought me to my happy place. The staff was quick, friendly, and simply amazing from start to finish. This is definitely going to be one of our new go-to spots, especially whenever we’re in Ybor. Love this place ❤️
