Higher Grounds

Crema's Take
“Higher Grounds is a warmly run neighborhood spot where the real magic happens through Norma and Daniel's genuine hospitality and consistently delicious paninis alongside their solid coffee program. The cozy, laptop-friendly vibe makes it equally perfect for lingering solo or catching up with friends, with housemade pastries and light food that elevates it beyond typical coffee-shop fare. It's the kind of place customers drive out of their way to revisit—a true local favorite that clearly deserves to be busier than it is.”

Higher Grounds is my go-to spot for a delicious cup of coffee in San Diego! The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff make it the perfect place to relax or catch up with friends. Plus, their pastries are always fresh and tasty.
Terrible quality coffee. I was really looking forward to trying this place, as well. I pass the sign every day on the way to work and it really makes it look like a cool craft coffee place. How can you call yourself Higher Grounds when you use a bag of Lavazza beans from Costco that costa $13? With so many amazing local roasters and great coffees produced all around the country and the world, you use wholesale garbage from Costco that anyone can buy. I had to ask three times for her to even understand the question of what kind of espresso beans they use or where they were from. Don’t waste your time going here unless it is your only option or if you don’t really care about the flavor of your coffee or where the beans came from. I can’t speak other options like food but if you can’t even do the basic thing right of the business that you’re in, why would I bother trying your other stuff either?
This place should expand to have more locations!! I don't make it to the area often, but when I do, I HAVE to go to Higher Grounds again. I stumbled across it because I was hungry and it was one of the only options nearby, and this place... wow- it's a hidden gem. I met the owner himself- super friendly and dedicated to his work. I found out he is a very experienced chef, and it definitely shows in the food and rotating menu items! I was expecting a place like this to have typical grab and go sandwiches or prepackaged items, given it's location- but I was so wrong. I had the tacos my first time there and ohmaiihgawd.... fantastic. Words don't describe how impressed I was. I also had got there at the right time, because as I was finishing up my lunch, I turned around to see the line was all the way back to the building doors, so others are starting to catch on to how good it is! DON'T. MISS. OUT. ON. THIS. PLACE!
