Harrison Street Café
402 N Harrison St, Richmond, VA
Crema's Take
“This Richmond vegetarian haven punches above its weight with inventive plant-based cooking that doesn't feel like compromise—think generously stuffed gyros and creative daily specials that keep regulars coming back. The café nails that sweet spot between a quick espresso stop and a leisurely sit-down meal, with an genuinely welcoming atmosphere that captures Richmond's creative spirit, though service can be inconsistent depending on who's behind the counter. Whether you're ordering a carefully pulled shot or diving into their thoughtfully marked vegan options, Harrison Street feels like the kind of neighborhood spot that's become essential to its community.”

Awesome vegetarian restaraunt, clearly marked vegan options. Best gyro ever, very stuffed with mock meat and very filling.
The service was wonderful. However, the owner was extremely rude. I didn't like how the soy-sauge tasted n asked if they could make another one w/o the vegan meat. They did not put cheese on the burrito which was supposed to be included. I took 2 bites. The owner accused me of eating 1/2 the burrito. Not true. She argued that there was cheese on the burrito - there was none. She said she had food to make for other customers n would "deal" w me after that. She stated, "what do u want me to do about it?" Um...make another one to please ur customer. Not everyone is trying to get something for free. The owner has zero customer service. Shaming the customer is not ok. The girls at the register were so professional n accommodating. Thankful for that. I'm so aggravated. I won't be back. She ruined this customer's experience.
Harrison Street Cafe is one of the few restaurants that I can reliably order the special for and be blown away every time. I’ve been ordering their specials for the last few months and they’ve been exceptional (creative, stellar texture, popping flavors, and ideal portions). The Reuben, Luigi, Lil Luigi, gyro, and Who Dat stand tall as monolithic sandwiches. I forgot to mention that their service can nearly instantly put an order together.
One of my absolute favorite Richmond spots. Harrison Street consistently provides fast fresh yummy food. They also offer great drinks. The atmosphere radiates the vibe of Richmond and the staff are friendly. I do wish they still offered for-here mugs not only for the experience but also to reduce unnecessary waste.
Harrison Street Cafe is one of our few Vegetarian restaurants in town. Almost everything on the menu has a vegan option too. Their food is always good - well seasoned, big portions, and great texture. I believe they make their vegan meats in-house too. They have great talent in their kitchen.
