Coffee Underground

Crema's Take

This cozy Columbus basement spot has carved out a loyal following as a creative haven, with an art collective that regularly makes it their studio by rearranging the furniture at will. While the drip coffee leans traditional and the half-sandwich portions feel a bit stingy for the price, their signature creative drinks like the apple pie latte show real personality, and the genuinely friendly staff keeps people coming back for long afternoons of work or conversation. It's the kind of place where the atmosphere—welcoming, flexible, and artsy—matters more than flawless execution.

The workers were very friendly and service was quick, however when we ordered sandwiches, we weren’t expecting them to be half a sandwich. $8.50 for HALF of a sandwich is quite crazy. I got the turkey bacon which is $7.00 and $8.50 with a $1.50 extra for adding on egg. Also $1.50 for 1 single egg is crazy considering you can buy eggs at walmart for roughly $5 which puts you at $0.42 per egg, and I’m sure businesses get them cheaper due to wholesale values. Also, not a big deal but we ordered our food to go and our sandwiches were given to us on plates.

The medium roast drip coffee was mediocre. I found the seating uncomfortable and overall I just wasn’t a fan of the atmosphere. The service was good though and the people are friendly.

I got the apple pie latte. It was pretty good. Never had one before, so it's hard to compare it to others. I would recommend it. Seems like a nice place to sit and chat with a friend or just by yourself like I did.

A wonderful hangout place! It may take 15min on feet to get to the campus. They only serve coffee, sandwiches and several pastries, but everything on the menu is tasty and cheap. They also have plenty of big tables and sofa seats for board games, puzzles, or other great games. WiFi is always fast. I enjoy spending a chill time at this place.

The art group I'm a part of meets here. We've been to several different places but Coffee Underground is by far the best location for making art. We move the tables around and they're cool with it. If you see us, please feel free to join. I head here after work so I typically want to eat something before getting here. They have pastries and bagels but I want a proper dinner. I'm fond of their hot chocolate, though. If I could make a suggestion, I'd consider announcing all orders? My hot chocolate is always announced but some of my pals have ordered chai or something and no notification was made that it was done so it was just sitting on the counter getting cold 😭 It's pretty quiet in here so if the staff said something, it was inaudible. There's free wifi. A playlist of folk/alt rock that falls outside of my tastes is always playing. Turn the funk/prog rock on!!!
