PIP Coffee + Clay
2617 N 24th St, Phoenix, AZ
Crema's Take
“This Phoenix gem perfectly blends craft coffee with hands-on pottery, where you can throw clay at the wheel while sipping thoughtfully made specialty drinks in a genuinely fun, unpretentious space. The instructors strike that rare balance of being encouraging without being condescending, making it equally welcoming for total beginners and experienced makers who just want to get messy and creative. Whether you're bringing a friend for a casual afternoon or planning a team event, PIP feels like the kind of place where good coffee, good vibes, and the smell of wet clay become an unexpectedly perfect combination.”

Super fun, casual, DIY class! A bit of instruction and time to clean up gives you more than an hour at the wheel. Plenty of time to get messy and make something cool, especially as a beginner. Great in groups, as a couple, or for a solo adventure. I'll be back!
Don’t let the calm, artsy exterior fool you, Pip Coffee & Clay is equal parts caffeine, creativity, and controlled chaos in the best way possible. If you’ve ever wanted to sip something delicious while aggressively wrestling a lump of clay, congratulations: you’ve found your people. I kicked things off with a Bumblebee latte (rose, lavender, and honey) from the coffee bar before heading into one of their beginner pottery classes. And let me be clear, that latte? A spiritual experience. Floral, cozy, and just sweet enough to convince you that you have your life together… right before you sit down and immediately realize clay has other plans for you. The class itself was fantastic. Ash, our instructor, deserves a standing ovation (and maybe a cape). Knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely kind… The kind of person who makes you feel like a pottery savant even when your bowl briefly takes on the personality of a depressed ashtray. They walk you through wheel control, shaping techniques, and, most importantly, how to emotionally recover when your creation collapses in on itself. (Which it will. Possibly more than once.) You get a full 2.5 hours, which is plenty of time to mess up, laugh, try again, and eventually surprise yourself by making two pieces you actually want to keep. Pip fires and glazes them for you, and they’re ready for pickup in about three weeks, basically pottery Christmas, but with more anticipation and less Mariah Carey. The vibe? Pure, wholesome, hands-dirty joy. I left covered in clay, laughing, and with way more serotonin than I expected from an activity requiring hand–eye coordination. This is the perfect date spot or an ideal outing with the girls when you’re deep in a “boys are stupid” era (because… science). At $60 for the class, it’s worth every penny for the experience, the laughs, and the memories. 10/10 got fired up, emotionally glazed, and left feeling wheel-y good about it… Would absolutely clay this again.
This was so much fun! The lesson was perfect - Simple, easy to follow, repetitive about the most important pieces, and full of advice about how to recover from mistakes (which we made plenty of). Had so much fun experimenting with different techniques and trying to make something usable. The class was cozy and friendly. The studio was bright and the artwork was hilarious. 10/10!
I own a hair salon in Scottsdale & this year we decided to go to PIP for some coffee & a wheel throwing class as our holiday party! It was so much fun & very reasonably priced! The instructor was amazing, encouraging & patient. Plus the space was just so gorgeous with the morning lighting
Had an amazing experience here! Booked the whole studio for a work team event and everyone had a blast ! The studio is super cool and the staff and instructors were great - especially with dealing with 15 unruly novices! The cafe section is great too! Looking forward to another visit.
