Crema's Take

This beloved Portage institution feels like stepping into a classic American family restaurant where the kitchen takes real pride in their craft, from scratch-made pastries and hearty breakfast spreads to surprisingly excellent burgers and open-faced meatloaf that keep people coming back. The warmth here runs deep—staff members are genuinely attentive and personable, making it the kind of place where you can linger over coffee with family or friends without feeling rushed, and where generous portions and honest, well-executed comfort food are the real draws rather than trendy specialty drinks.

Best burger I've ever had and I've had a lot of burgers plus the onion rings are awesome. I also had a brownie from their bakery which was also really good. I as well had corn beef hash and eggs and the week later I had a breakfast sandwich. I totally recommend this place and it opens earlier than any other restaurant they open at 5 am mon - fri the staff if super friendly and there isn't a huge wait time for the food.

Ashley was our waitress and such a gem! As others have said very family-friendly, reminds me of Bill Knapps. I had the chef salad which was a very generous portion. The open faced meatloaf was delicious as well. For dessert we enjoyed their coconut cream pie - even the whip cream is from scratch! The prices are very reasonable as well - whole pie was cheaper than ordering 3 individual pieces. Looking forward to trying the lemon ice box pie!

Our family recently went to The Crew Restaurant on Portage Road in Kalamazoo with a party of 14 on Saturday night. I was able to make reservations two weeks ahead of time which was awesome. When we got there 30 minutes early, they were already set up for us and we were able to sit down without a wait. The waitress was so nice and friendly and got us drinks right away. Shortly after our whole party arrived, we were ordering food and the waitress really took care of us. Not only was she attentive but she had a great attitude, answered our requests with a smile and had great attention to details. The food was soooo good! I had the fried chicken wrap with fries and a side order of onion rings because I wanted to try it all having never been there. Everything was delicious and the fries were the right amount of crunch without being overly seasoned like some places can be. My husband ordered breakfast and it looked very good too! I usually shy away from getting eggs at a restaurant, but his eggs were perfectly done with no slimy bits. His breakfast potatoes were crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside and the pancakes were the size of a salad plate! Our son and daughter-in-law got the sample appetizer that had mozzarella sticks, deep fried mushrooms, onion rings, and chicken tenders. All of which they loved. They shared a couple of their deep fried mushrooms with me and I would totally get those again. My daughter-in-law got the BLT and the bacon was the right amount of crispy and so big it was hanging off the bread. Perfect for stealing bites of which our son did a couple of times. My brother-in-law got the turkey dinner with a baked potato and stuffing and he said that was really good too. I wish I could write more of what other people got but I was so happy with my food that I didn’t pay attention. It was reasonably priced too. My dinner of fried chicken wrap, fries, side order onion rings, and hubby’s order of 2 eggs, breakfast potatoes, toast and a side order of 2 pancakes, plus we both got Coke (and refills) all came to $40.00. And we had little boxes to take home of leftovers. All in all, we were all pleasantly surprised and have now deemed this our new spot.

First off, the staff is amazing, and Morgan, our waitress, was outstanding. She went above and beyond. The food was great, and the selection was astounding. We had breakfast and were taken aback by the choices. The facility was clean and provided a friendly feel. The ambiance with the personable staff and good food makes this an outstanding location. A must-try location and a definite do-again.

The service started with a smile and greeting! I was promptly seated and the server was friendly, warm and even funny! The food was delicious and prepared exactly as it was ordered and plenty of it! Generous portions of comfort food served warm and fresh! The prices were very reasonable and I will be back again!
