Great Harvest Bread Company - Boulder, Colorado
2525 Arapahoe Ave, Boulder, CO
Crema's Take
“This beloved Boulder institution has recently undergone changes under new management that have left longtime customers nostalgic for its former glory, particularly missing standout items like their celebrated gluten-free pumpkin bread and the quality breads that once defined the experience. While the early-opening hours and selection of pastries still make it convenient for a quick grab, recent reviews suggest the coffee quality and value have declined, with customers noting inconsistent service and pricing that feels steep for what's being offered. If you're in the neighborhood looking for traditional coffee shop fare, it might be worth trying, but longtime devotees should manage expectations around the notable shifts in both atmosphere and product quality.”

Should have read the recent reviews before coming. I have visited this location for years and always enjoyed it. It seems the only thing the same with new management is some of the breads? I don’t know. The menu seemed way more limited and was just disappointing. The staff were friendly, tried to accommodate what was close to our usual order. The new wall, I have to agree with others, is a bit unwelcoming. Folks are nice and the bread may be the same (didn’t buy any) just be aware of pretty massive changes.
Excellent breads. Lower rating due to value. The prices may be considered more palatable (heh) if you get a free slice of bread or 2 to “offset” your purchase. I was quite shocked at the $10.95 price for a sliced loaf- something I used to consider a staple. Now it will have to be a special occasion. The decor was controversial and questionable.
I’m so sad to leave this review because we loved Great Harvest for years. The gluten free pumpkin bread was the best around. We would gift it to everyone . We aren’t even GF but preferred it over the other. The recipe must have changed because it is now dry and dense when it used to be moist and fluffy. The chocolate chips went from big chunks to mini chips.i always order multiple loaves because my family can eliminate one in a day! But now i have expensive bread that might be goat food. I also ordered chicken salad, which was so salty I could not finish it. I hope they can get back on track to what it used to be soon.
I used to be a customer for years until the new owners took over recently. The remodel is a disaster! Why block off the front now with that stupid wall. Also, they dumbed down the breads as they come in tins instead of the loaf you can see in its wrapper. Also, they removed many of the breads I was fond of and the loafs look much smaller now. You have done a great job of losing an existing customer.
Maybe because it was a Sunday or maybe something else? Service was terrible. “coffee” was in a dispenser and lukewarm at best. $6 for coffee that I could have made at home with nothing really in stock to go with it. Cinnamon rolls were hard and crunchy with no icing on them. I have never ever given a low review but this time it was justified. There is a bagel shop nearby and a much better place to stop instead.
