Idle Hour Coffee
1818 Oberlin Rd, Raleigh, NC
Crema's Take
“Idle Hour Coffee offers a charming, well-designed escape just outside Raleigh's downtown bustle, with ample parking and a cozy atmosphere that makes it ideal for lingering over work or catching up with friends. While the coffee itself has been hit-or-miss for visitors, the real draw here is the beautifully crafted desserts and cheesecakes that are as Instagram-worthy as they are indulgent. That said, consistency seems to be the shop's weak point—reviews praise the aesthetic and pastries but note occasional lapses in both coffee quality and cleanliness that keep this from being a reliable neighborhood favorite.”

2nd time visiting this coffee shop. Similar experience both times. Cute shop but the coffee is so bitter! I love trying local coffee shops but I won’t be back to this one unfortunately. I ordered a small iced americano with (homemade) gingerbread syrup and creamer. I also wanted to order a large hot coffee but they were out of drip coffee…once I tasted my americano I asked for more gingerbread syrup and even with that it remained bitter you could barely taste the syrup. I added more simple syrup and cinnamon and it did nothing to hide the bitterness. I’m not one for super sweet coffee but I was trying to hide the bitterness. Perhaps their matcha or chai is better
Food was alright, didn’t taste that great. And one of the sandwiches had hair in it which they remade. Coffee wasn’t memorable. Honestly wouldn’t go again or recommend. Service was great though and it’s a cute place. Just sucks that the food doesn’t taste as good as it looks.
The cheesecakes were beautiful, fun, and delicious! Unfortunately the service was just ok and the place wasn’t the cleanest (trash was overflowing, dirty dishes were stacked up on the counter). Sanitation rating is 90% as of Nov 2025. Would go again just for the desserts but without those would not return. Expensive- $26 for two desserts and a hot tea.
Very cute and well curated spot. The coffee was great and the chocolate loaf was perfect. It has parking in the back and plenty of seating. A very cozy stop just outside the downtown madness. I'm looking forward to trying the cupcakes I saw sometime!
Cute Instagram worthy desserts, though very sweet and textures were something my child couldn't get over. A combination a jell, cake, frosting, chocolate shell, and cream. Service was fine, no issues. Parking was a little obnoxious. For the price of items I expected a little more of the interior. I do plan to try them again for the coffee.
