Trini Vybez Restaurant And Bar
1400 Meridian Pl NW, Washington, DC
Crema's Take
“While Trini Vybez aims to celebrate Caribbean flavors with West Indian-inspired dishes, the execution seems inconsistent—some guests rave about standout items like salted cod fritters and friendly service from staff like Channon, while others found the traditional doubles and seafood disappointing. The relaxed vibe with outdoor seating makes it a solid spot for casual meetups during happy hour, though you might want to stick to their lighter fare rather than betting on the signature Trinidadian dishes.”

If I could give it negative stars I would. I ordered doubles and the result is below. Didn’t taste it. Thick hard bara and the chickpeas look like it came out of a can with giant chunks of unseasoned cucumber. Avoid this place. While they claim the chef is Trini, she can’t even be from the Caribbean serving this.
My oyster was room temp…. and tasted fishey And look at this “seafood shooter”. Mind you you choose an option of crab, shrimp, etc. I asked for crab. Came for happy hour so my bill was cheap for DC, but I didn’t eat the food. I had one glass of white wine, which was good for the price.
Food was delicious. The salted cod fritters were outstanding as were the fried plantains. We had curried goat and curried chicken for dinner which was super flavorful. Will come again.
I wish I could leave a review without a star cause I would give this place a ZERO for Trini food. The absolute worse representing of what Trini food is, the doubles is garbage, the pholourie garbage. Please learn how to make these items the right way. Because what you are serving customers is trash. Trini good is amazing and that mess is garbage. I can teach y’all how to make proper doubles and pholourie. Pleas do better. Please. I had to throw everything away. It was under cooked and not seasoned, pholourie was under cooked smh. I am born and raised is TRINIDAD so y’all need to do better sheesh. I will not recommend this place for Trini food at all. Yuck.
Channon is the bomb! This is a hidden gem. Loved the sprinkled flavors of west Indian influenced dishes. We enjoyed the different options. We found that they have just the right amount of different ideas we are looking for and the fried sweet plantains are a beautiful staple. Would come back and soon! Dinner please!
