Crema's Take

Fresh Start Market & Espresso is a Salem gem with real heart—they're roasting solid espresso drinks and serving fresh, affordably-priced food while running a youth job training program that actually changes lives. The vibe balances nicely between quick coffee grab and lingering slow-sit space, and you'll find homemade pastries, light meals, and even locally-grown produce and handmade crafts from the young people learning real skills here. It's the kind of place where your coffee tastes better knowing your money supports something meaningful in the community.

What a great spot for a delicious snack (or meal) and coffee! Our family stopped here on a road trip and we were so excited by this find. Also supporting a good cause.

I don't even want to post this review, because I'm pretty sure this place is actually the best kept secret in Salem. Fresh made food with fresh ingredients, and cheaper compared to fast food and definitely compared to "healthy" fast food places. They also sell random produce at good prices, grown on site or next door by the master gardeners, but who knows what produce they'll have because it's whatever was ripe this morning! Love the people, the food, and everything about this place.

Fresh start has amazing prices on fresh produce grown on-site through the juvenile program. Their plants and arts and crafts made by the youth are pretty amazing too. Great food good coffee, decent price and greatly benefits at risk youth.

Great concept. Teaching young people business skills, food prep customer service is a nice selection of woodworking crafts for sale that they've made plants, vegetables and not just coffee. Cinnamon rolls are delicious. The coffee is tasty And hot. Prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend coming here, not just for the quality food, ample parking and lots of seating with big windows but to actually support youth in getting away from wrong choices and encouraging positive choices.
